3-0 US with about 20 minutes left.

Costa Rica has beaten Jamaica 1-0 and is currently a point back of Panama.

*Ventures into r/ussoccer post game*

"It's a good result but it's alarming there were no goals from the run of play. It's obvious that Gregg got lucky tonight."

Nevermind.

LOL. That's like something from the Azzurri press.

When we were in Rome I spent time puzzling out Italian by reading the back pages of the bloids. They make Philadelphia look like Seattle.

r/ussoccer is home to portion of fans that

a) Will never be happy with Gregg Berhalter despite any result.

b) Would rather see a player you've never heard of from the Slovenian fourth division over any player from MLS.

Or, tl;dr they're idiots.

The other thing from the r/ussoccer-Twitter duo of dumb that PO's me is this attitude "Oh we shouldn't be doing cheap things like playing in cold weather places, we should be above that."

No motherfuckers, this is CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, you do anything and everything in your power to help you qualify. It doesn't matter if you're the US, Mexico, or fucking Haiti because it is always necessary, nothing should be below you.

Mexico with a rather unimpressive 1-0 (on a PK) win over Panama. That means the standings going into the final window in March are thus:

CAN 25
USA 21 (+9 GD)
MEX 21 (+6 GD)
PAN 17
CRC 16
ELS 9
JAM 7 (eliminated)
HON 3 (eliminated)

As far as I can tell Canada has at least clinched a playoff spot (there's no scenario where all four teams below them can pass or tie them on points).

US or Mexico can clinch qualification after the next game but only if either one wins and Panama and Costa Rica lose. US clinch qualification with a win at home over Panama no matter what else happens.

Panama and Costa Rica basically have to win out to qualify directly.

El Salvador is still alive for the playoff spot but has to win out and Costa Rica and Panama would have to lose out

Jamaica and Honduras are eliminated.

So I saw amongst a discussion comparing MLS to some Euro leagues that someone mentioned 9 out of 12 teams in the Scottish Premier League have losing records and negative goal difference. My immediate thought was “well the SPL isn’t particularly great but there’s no way tha HOLY FUCK it’s true.”

Gabriel Martonelli had himself an evening for Arsenal...

Two yellows for two separate instances of being a clown in the span of about 10 seconds....

As an official, those are the fun ones...

You did that on your own. I'm impressed, but you still need to go. - Ref's line of thought probably, lol...

"Mais pourquois, mais pourquois"?!?

"Mais pourquois, mais pourquois"?!?

Having the mentality of a spoiled teenager will do that to ya. Thats basically what I think happened. He wasn't having a great evening and the 30 seconds prior to this just pushed him over the edge.

It happens in sport, even to the best of us.

Apparently the SheBelieves Cup is happening right now. Seems like poor timing with the Olympics still going through Sunday. Also a poor lineup compared to prior years. The first few years were all top 5 teams, then the last few were at least top 15. This year only the US is in the top 15. It's #1 USA, and then #16 Iceland (when did they get good?), #22 New Zealand, and #24 Czechia. On top of all that, the US came out with a scoreless draw against Czechia in the opener.

It’s bad timing but this the window that FIFA has given so it’s not really the USSF’s fault.

It seems that a few of the normal countries that would play have started their own tournaments. England started the Arnold Clark Cup and is playing Germany, Canada, and Spain. France has the Tournoi de France with the Netherlands, Brazil, and Finland. And of course there’s still the Algarve Cup that Sweden and Norway are in. COVID is still keeping Japan and the Aussies out.

As far the roster, well they gotta start to get new blood in and they might as well do it now while they’ve got time.

World Cup Qualifying will be in Mexico next year. Last time the USWNT had to play in Mexico they lost to Mexico and had to go through a playoff. Though with the expansion to 32 teams CONCACAF gets 4 slots so not qualifying is really unlikely.
