World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

The real fix is to go full cold war USSR. Identify young talent and take them from their homes. Put them in a government funded intensive training program. Provide school, housing, meals, etc.

Each year re-evaluate players and send them home if they arent performing.

Note, USSR may just have had them killed.

Or sent them to East Germany.

Jimjamesak - what would be your timeline for a fix? Having something in place and fully working by Qatar seems a bit of a stretch so we're looking at 2026 and the full results by 2030??
2026. If the US is hosting in 2026 we need a plan in place to help with success in that tournament. Right now, the U-17 and U-20 pools indicate that the DA program is having some success. But a major problem has always been transitioning that talent from the U-17 level to the senior level, that's what the US sucks at.

Nah, they're big strong athletes, you send them to Siberia to get work done and then the other part just sorta happens after a while.

Re: World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

The US has more soccer players than any other country on the planet. What you describe is not the issue at all.

if you exclude 8yo kids who's parents sign them up so they don't get fat, what's left?!? :)

It's far more popular than hockey, where we pull our weight internationally.

only count REAL 'muricans, please (no browns) :D

Re: World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

How many kids play something won't impact the ability to build a development system.
This is absolutely ludicrous. Having a larger talent pool to select from is extremely important if you want to build a better team because it's essentially a bell curve where you have a larger number of people in the top percentile. And as Jim said it's not like they're hurting for money.

Except working with the current system has caused us to miss the World Cup...

isn't chile out? and the dutch staying home as well? stuff happens man. geez. the us was there every year since the year they hosted (1994), no? 20 years straight (yah yah, not every year... mookie knows)

sure, it's embarrassing (tom arnold voice). but hey.

US Soccer would be infinitely improved if we simply banned white kids.

is kep implying the white guys on the team now are token "greg kite's"??

Those teams play actual competition.

Re: World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

If I'm not mistaken the European model is to have a pro team and then teams below that level all the way down to U10 or so. The object is to develop kids for the big club, be it at the top level or some lower division

So if we did that here we'd have DC United, a U20 team and so forth down the line all the way to 9 year olds. What I'm not clear on is would you have a ton of 9 year olds learning the fundamentals and then as they age up, the pyramid gets smaller???

can we also relegate then?!?!?! :)

please :)

You know what I meant, far stiffer competition than we face in CONCACAF.

I'm not talking about the talent pool, I'm talking about building a nation wide infrastructure for developing that talent pool. $100M is not nearly enough money to do that.

Re: World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

mookie is going to hit up a game when he is in london after christmas. any of the premier games are going to be a hassle, so he is looking to adopt milton keyes!! they have a home fixture on the 30th which looks like a winner.

that has to be a better watch than minnesota united or whatnot :p

just watched a kpl game between tadhamon and jahra. 2-2

minnesota united has to be a better watch than that was.

Ignoring the fact that 100M is again, just the surplus, how much infrastructure do you really need for futsal? Look at the dirt poor countries with good teams where people are just playing in the street and stuff and then compare that to the number of resources (and $$$) we have at our disposal. I don't think we need to go full Scooby about the potential for the USMNT if things actually change.
