World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Just my opinion but the English are way better in their own mind than they actually are. They think because they have good teams in the EPL that makes them good, forgetting that half the players are from somewhere else. The rankings I really don't pay much attention to except as a general view.

Now here's a question for you. Does Bradley, or Altidore, or Guzan make the MNT for the 2018 WC?

Obviously health and club matter but I think the simple answer is yes. Altidore should have a place if healthy as a replacement for Wood or could you imagine him and Wood together up top? I'd love to see them playing together.

Guzan, I'm not sure who would take his place, there really isn't a leader in the clubhouse. Bradley, despite how much everyone seems to hate him is still one of the better american players and still has some years left.

I think this guy pretty much nails my perception of the team, although I don't think Johansson won't make the team and Kekuta Manneh has to get his papers figured out in time to participate for the US.
I also think someone like Cameron Carter-Vickers has a good shot of making the team.

Even with the amount of foreign players in the Premier League, it's not like they just brought role players and scrubs from those PL clubs.

I think the point that their midfield isn't as strong as their defense or (some) attacking options says a lot more about it than anything else.

Now here's a question for you. Does Bradley, or Altidore, or Guzan make the MNT for the 2018 WC?

Bradley is a shell of what he was in Bundesliga and Serie A, and yet still is a fixture in our lineup. I say he remains as long as his game doesn't completely slip. Granted, we have quite a few up-and-coming/may-or-may-not-pan-out midfielders, so maybe enough of them develop in the next two years that Bradley becomes expendable, but somehow I doubt it. Even less likely that our defensive corps develop enough that we can move Fabian Johnson or Deandre Yedlin up into the back-end of the midfield.

Altidore has probably already lost his spot to Bobby Wood, who plays Altidore's role better than Altidore ever could. That said, we've seen what happens when we have no depth at that role, and it sucks. Since all of our forwards and midfielders seem to be better on the wings or are terrible like Wondo, I say there's a good chance that Altidore is at least a sub on the team. He only gets the boot if some of our young guns (Pulisic, Green, etc.) really develop a lot in the next two years or if some of the other middling options at forward/midfield (Johannsson, Diskerud, etc.) regain their form.

Guzan... seriously, I'm not sure who replaces him. Unless Horvath, Cropper AND some other guy become full-time Premier League backstops I don't see why we would leave Guzan home.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Now the English media is reporting Klinsmann for the England job.

I mean, I really appreciate the effort by them but I don't think it's happening.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Portugal advances to the semifinals despite not winning a game in regulation.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Interesting articles around the world on Klinnsmann. I know many of you all don't like him. But I think there is a lot of good stuff he is doing( especially around the player development process), and apparently the British don't share that same dislike.

He's tactically naive and the YNT programs are a *ing mess not qualifying for tournaments. Also most of the recruitment of foreign born players was done by Thomas Rongen.

The English can have him.

Battle for 2nd place tonight in the NWSL as WNY takes on Chicago. But the big question: Is Portland going to lose a game this year?

To be fair, Olympic qualifying isn't the easiest thing in the world. Less seats at the table and its not a table at the end where a mistake game can be overcome.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Excellent goal for Wales to go ahead.

Edit: And now, 3-1 Wales in the 88th minute. It'll take a miracle for them to go home now. Although they're without Aaron Ramsey for the semis.
