I think that is the most heartbreaking loss I have ever seen in any sport. I didn't care who won and it still makes you feel for England. They are the Ziggy of the International Soccer. Absolutely devastating.

She's going to have to talk to Russell Wilson about therapists.

It's definitely in the running. England really had much better of the play in the 2nd half - they created several great chances, while Japan was doing pretty much nothing on offense. Soccer can be a terrible and unjust game.

Watched the goal several times, and if she had been an attacker, that would have been one of the greatest goals in WC history. Amazing touch. She couldn't do that again if she tried. Heck, Messi couldn't do that if he tried.

Because Twitter is the worst thing on earth:

With that own goal, by the way, Laura Bassett now has as many World Cup goals as Wayne Rooney.

Because Twitter is the worst thing on earth:

Cold.

But I hope people understand all of the coulda, woulda, shoulda events in the game that meant the mistake was that big. England had some great chances to take the lead, so the burden should be on the forwards as much as the one defender.

Sadly we look for one scapegoat.

Twas ever thus.

Somebody is quiet after the Red Bulls beat the Cosmos last night 4-1...

Mexico gets their first excuse why they'll lose to the US again. Chicharito breaks his collarbone.

Actually, it's not a case of wimping. It's a case of you not specifying a position, thereby having a loophole where if they go to penalties, or if the game is decided by one goal from a penalty, you would always win, regardless of which team comes out on top.
