Judge dismisses domestic violence charges against Hope Solo

A judge has dismissed domestic violence charges against U.S. women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, according to Chris Daniels of KING 5 News.

....

Solo has denied the allegations throughout the legal process, contending she "used lawful force" in defending herself from her nephew, who is 6-foot-9 and 280 pounds.

According to Daniels, Kirkland judge Michael Lambo said that the case was "impermissibly prejudiced" by a lack of cooperation from witnesses, leading the judge to dismiss charges.

Seattle acquired former Portland (and Montreal and DC and...) GK Troy Perkins. Needless to say it's not going over so well....

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Until the major players are as equally miffed with FIFA as the US and England they have no reason to abdicate.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Probably a stupid question, but what's stopping the women's teams from dropping out and boycotting the games?

All the protest over the turf just seems like it's going to end in a "welp, we tried" manner and the games will go on anyway. If it's really that big of a deal, why aren't the top players just saying they aren't interested in playing in the WC anymore and putting together some all-star teams to play in a Commonwealth Cup in California or something? I'm sure ESPN would love to televise something like that with Fox now having WC rights.

Ok, here is a question. Is the NWSL the top Women's League in the world? If so, how can they really complain about grass vs turf when 6 of the 9 teams in that league have Turf fields?

Jozy to Torronto FC, in what seems like an actual honest-to-God trade. Jermain Defoe to Sunderland.
So maybe TFC makes the playoffs now?

Red Bulls supposedly were working a trade to Montreal for the number 1 allocation spot and a $7.5 million cash offer to TFC for Altidore.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Sacha Kljestan is reportedly moving to MLS as well with Philly, Red Bulls, LA, and Seattle all in the mix. Wherever he ends up, Montreal wins as they hold the top spot in the Allocation Order and those four teams would have to trade for it.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Kljestan is terrible. I emphatically hope the Red Bulls don't trade for him. I'd take Jozy back in a heartbeat though.

But more importantly... FAT RONALDO IS GOING TO ATTEMPT A COMEBACK WITH THE FORT LAUDERDALE STRIKERS!!!!! I would absolutely schlep to Hofstra to watch Fat Ronaldo and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers take on Old Raul and the Fake Cosmos.

It is my understanding that the French women's league is generally considered to be the best in the world, though I could be wrong. IIRC, some of the best US women's players play there.

Most play in both since NWSL is a summer league.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

So I'm rather frustrated to see some of the best America has to offer ending up in Toronto! That's not really "coming home" ****it!

As opposed the wannabes of NY soccer. RBNY... err... New Jersey, and Man City's farm club.

Hey, I've never denied that the Red Bulls/Metros are historically a terrible team. But at least they're an actual soccer team and not a merchandising enterprise capitalizing on 35-year-old goodwill.

Apparently the MLS SuperDraft is today? The way to get fans excited is definitely having it at 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon.

Well, the Superdraft is really losing significance lately with Homegrown players and such.

If the MLS and the Cosmos ever got together, the money they'd be making would far outweigh any initial cost. It's got a cache. I just think both parties missed the boat and we're stuck Man City's version of Chivas.

Deadspin on Toronto FC's Altidore, Giovinco signings

I have to say... I don't mind the lower level of play compared to top European leagues, and even the salary cap doesn't bother me too much, but single-entity isn't really doing it for me these days.

The single entity was great to start the league up, but I do think maybe we should look into breaking it up with separate owners for separate clubs. However, we'd have the issue of teams like the Galaxy, RBNY and others buying championships.
