World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

There definitely was contact. The English player also sold it a bit. But my point was the contact was initiated by the English player's wind up to shoot.

Exactly. Both players have a right to be there. Just because she fell down after contact doesn't mean there's a foul.

I'm not sure that's the case; the only view that showed it was from behind so we didn't have an angle on whether she was going forward into the leg or just passively being hit on the backswing.

Happily it doesn't matter. Ugly win but a win and not too suspect.

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

England’s probably gonna have to bring the keeper up to at least midfield here if they ever get possession, right?

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

England played this whole last 10 mins stupidly. And Telford not up?

Re: World Soccer XXIX: Pro/Rel USA! just kidding!

Great first half; bullsh-t second half. Better team won and possibly deserved it. If we'd played this way against France I don't think we would have won.

Alyssa Naeher with the first ever save by an American Keeper in a World Cup on a PK.

England become the first team to miss three PKs in a single World Cup.

Because of course they were. Missing 3 PKs should replace the three lions on their shield. The Sun's gonna have fun with this one.

I thought the US played much better against ENG than FRA.

Once we calm down about this, somebody with EPL chops please tell me how I should feel about my newly adopted club's acquisitions.

I’m honestly surprised it was that close. England are not a semifinal team to be honest.

I didn't. I thought FRA played fantastic defense so while we didn't have our wide open game we still had to (and did) play perfectly to beat them. Conversely I thought the USA let ENG have a crapton of A+ chances. We could easily have surrendered 4 today. This could have gotten out of hand; the FRA game couldn't -- we locked that down.

It's tough to tell but there was definitely contact from behind on a very good scoring chance. I don't really buy the leg backswing initiating the contact because there wasn't gonna be a huge leg swing on a tap in and you can see the US player lunging forward into her with her knee (obviously she's trying to get back in the play so the contact isn't necessarily intentional but it doesn't really matter).

That’s a penalty, Sauerbraun essentially runs into her. Granted, it’s not one you’d call live but with VAR it’s definitely a PK.

Could of been a red as well, I don’t think Sauerbraun makes an attempt to play the ball but there’s no way that’s getting called.
