Evidently a sportsbook in Britain had a promo where you could bet on the US to win the Cup and get a dollar back per goal scored. 2/1 odds, so you're not making bank, but if you laid 25 down you just increased it to 4/1 odds today.

I will say that this maybe a bit much after scoring to make it 9-0.

These aren't friendlies. It's a tournament where goal difference matters. Score as many goals as you can, whenever you can.

Tell me how many times the USWNST needed to give a s**t about GD after even a 6 goal differential even 1 time?

The women were +3 in 2015, Germany was +14 and they still won. In 2011 the US was +4, Brazil +7, Japan +3, Germany +4. They lost in the final.

If the US ties Sweden, certainly a possibility, the GD will determine who wins the group. And you know Sweden is going to run up the score on Thailand for the very same reason. So yeah, it is VERY important.

If they tie Sweden they’ve got bigger problems than goal differential.

I've never understood why tie breakers don't ALL cap GD per game. Beating somebody by 4 or 14 means exactly the same thing.

I don't care about the feelings of the losing squad. Want to feel better? Play better. But it makes the game a mockery that the relative standing of two super teams comes down to whether they beat Malaria Archipelago by 21 or 22.

And yeah the score to me in retrospect is less bothersome than the celebrating once it was that out of hand. Someone mentioned elsewhere the Germans toned it down the last few goals when they spanked Brazil 7-1.

Mallory Pugh scored her first ever World Cup goal. Should she have quietly returned to midfield and not celebrated? Let me know when you do.

As stated by ticapnews, this was a very different situation. This was the first game in this WC for the teams. GD matters in this round. Many people scored their first goal ever at a WC or in this world cup so there was reason to celebrate. I really don't care about anyone's takes that are negative on this, but there is one good thing about this now...everyone is talking about the Women's World Cup.

A) Sweden is good, so tying them is not a "bigger" problem.
B) Who cares about the bigger problem? You want to win your group. And if GD gets you to win the group, then GD go with GD. :-)

I didn’t realize Seven Nation Army was now the official entrance music. I was hoping that was just for Russia last year. The FIFA anthem of one of the few good things about FIFA.
