Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Everyone's beating United. It's not unusual. Moyes keeps this up they'll be in the Championship in a couple years. :D
They did get relegated in the 70s! Moyes has got to be feeling unbelievable pressure. Goes to show how good SAF was.

They did in 1973-74. Spurs were sent down in the late 70s and Chelsea were a yo-yo club for a stretch.

I know Moyes has lost games he shouldn't have, but I remember SAF had people calling for his head early in his reign until he won the FA Cup. The rest they say is history.

Moyes had a good track record at Everton, which is a very different situation than ManU. It's still too early to decide how he will turn out. The ManU he inherited certainly is much better positioned than the one SAF inherited, but it's true SAF was at some risk of being let go before he got things rolling.

And on relegation, of course Arsenal are the longest running team in the top flight, having last been relegated in 1913.

About that *er did it. He's been dating her for years. I know when he was with the Sounders, while on a road trip, they passed an Alex Morgan billboard and the whole team made him take a photo in front of it. It's like dude, you gotta marry that chick!

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

On ESPN, Alexi Lalas gave his Best XI all-time for USMNT and USWNT

Men:
Wynalda-McBride
Ramos-Reyna-Bradley-Donovan
Agoos-Bocanegra-Balboa-Hejduk
Meola

Women:
Morgan-Wambach-Hamm
Lilly-Akers-Lloyd
Chastain-Rampone-Overbeck-Fawcett
Solo

Thoughts?

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

I would think you could make an argument for Paul Caligiuri, Joe-Max Moore, Kasey Keller and I think Howard, Dempsey and Altidore have a shot at playing themselves onto the list.

As warm and fuzzy as Frankie Hejduk makes us all feel, he was never half the player that Cherundolo has been over the course of his career.

No way on Meola. It would have to be Keller, Friedel, or Howard.

How do we weight a single great tournament against sustained excellence? I'd take Tony Sanneh from the 2002 World Cup over anyone else at right back, but he never sustained that level of performance over multiple seasons.

If we're cherry-picking like that, I'll take John O'Brien from that tournament too. Actually, can we just take the 2002 team as a whole?
