Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

And jmh thinks this is a great idea. He beats that dead horse more than I beat the US/England got screwed or Henry is a cheat horse.
I never said that. I think it's a terrible idea. I just think the reason they're doing it is to save face by not completely backing off from a bad decision, not to screw anglophones.

But why did they make the bad decision in the first place? Simply because they are corrupt or because they have something against USA/England?

What they had against England: the expose on corruption by the BBC (I think it was).

What they had against the U.S.: no money to be made on graft.

So really, the answer to your question is yes.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

I really don't have a problem with a world cup in the Middle East, nor do I have a problem with shifting the world cup to winter to help make it happen but that is not how the process was bid and its not fair to change the rules after the fact. No one else was given the opportunity to shift their tournament bid to a time ideal for them? I also think its crazy to have it in Qatar, a country with "two" International Airports and one other airport, a country that is smaller than Connecticut and a country with two cities larger than 32k people. That is just crazy.

For the first time in five years, both Manchester teams lose on the same day.

It will if Moyes stays around.

He does seem to be a bit over his head. Reminds me of how ManU struggles for a bit when Fergie stepped down a number of years ago (and then unretired). ManU didn't look like themselves without Ferguson at the helm. Similar thing here.

Re: World Soccer XXIV: The Road to Rio

Wow. When Arsenal are clicking, they are really fun to watch. They spend a bit too much time each game coasting, and defense is still an adventure, but during that 15 - 20 minutes each game this season when they decide to exert maximum effort, they are so dynamic and fluid.

I don't know how it came about, but I started watching English soccer on TV during the 2004 "Invincibles" run to an undefeated season. Ironically, their last major win. I've read that Real Madrid sold Ozul to Arsenal partly out of spite at Tottenham for jerking around the Gareth Bale transfer so long. So far Ozul is definitely proving to be an immediate impact.
