World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Now that the fixtures are out for the season...I want to start planning my trip to the UK to see a few matches this season.

I want to see a match in London, Manchester, and of course Portsmouth.

Would be tough to get a full week off of work, so ideally I'd like to go when there's matches on Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday or something similar. Wondering when the nicest time of year to go will be...don't care where in London I see a match...I feel like Emirates and Stamford Bridge will be too expensive, and the match up in Manchester will be pricey too.

(I work for an airline and can fly for free, so airline tickets are nothing to worry about. :))

Plug: Craven Cottage tends to be less expensive than other London clubs, and has a designated seating area for neutral spectators if you don't want to sit with supporters. It's also really pretty.

My wife and I are kicking around the idea of going to England in a few years. Are neutral sections in other stadiums?

I've been to Highbury and Loftus Road in London. Highbury was great, being an Arsenal fan and knowing they were moving soon and all, but it was pretty expensive. Loftus Road was much cheaper and gave a great football atmosphere. Also had fun at a match at Portmann Road (home of Ipswich), though Millwall were the opponents, so it was a little dicier of an atmosphere. I'm not aware of neutral sections in the stadiums I went to, but I don't think it's that big of a deal to sit with the home crowd (assuming you don't wear a jersey or something from the visiting team).

I don't believe so; it's a fairly common point of self-deprecation among Fulham supporters that the club feels the need to have that section in order to sell more tickets because they can't fill the ground with supporters. As Bob noted, though, you're probably fine to sit with the home crowd as a neutral as long as you don't openly support the visiting team; I went to a match at Leyton Orient last time I was over and sat in the supporters section with no problems.

Which reminds me that I also wanted to recommend checking out out lower division games. The quality of play isn't great, maybe not even as good as MLS once you get down to League One, but the atmosphere is a lot of fun, and the ticket prices are more reasonable as well.

Hmm....looks like no starters from the recent qualifiers are even on the roster (and very few subs). We don't even have the backup goalie from the qualifiers on the roster.

Worth nothing that CONCACAF has ditched the "good Gold Cup/bad Gold Cup" divide; the winner of the 2013 Gold Cup and the winner of the 2015 Gold Cup will play a single-game playoff to determine qualification to the 2017 Confederations Cup (assuming they are won by different teams; if the same team wins both then they will auto-qualify), rather than it simply going to the team that wins the Gold Cup two years before the Confederations Cup.

Regarding the US roster, it's still pretty good compared to what Mexico is bringing which has (as far as I can tell) no overlap with the A team they sent to the Confederations Cup.

Spoilers follow:

0-0 after extra time and Spain win the penalty shootout 7-6. The first 12 kicks go in, Leonardo Bonucci shoots over the bar, and Jesus Navas converts to send Spain into the final. Neymar against 6 guys who are going to be his teammates and 3 guys who want to break his legs should be interesting.

then a gimmick to win it

Yeah, I would say that's a pretty safe way to do it, maybe chat up the natives and have them give you reasons why you you should be pulling for their team, and have them teach you a few of their cheers. Pay for a round of pints and you're golden.
