World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

So according to Wikipedia the current Region Strength Factors are:
UEFA (Europe) 1.00
CONMEBOL 1.00
CONCACAF 0.88
AFC (Asia) 0.86
CAF (Africa) 0.86
OFC (Oceania) 0.85

That makes me think if they have a choice, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF will end up in the same pot. That would be good for USA but it would increase their chances of being in a group with Brazil or Argentina.

It depends on how the Intercontinental Playoffs go, if CONCACAF gets 4 teams in and CONMEBOL gets 5 teams in then they won't be paired. If it's 4 and 4 or 3 and 5 then that's a possibility.

Obviously numbers work out evenly for 8s in a different way but more then likely they won't. Obviously there is too much left to really speculate. Who really knows...in other news, 3 nations will punch their ticket tomorrow and two more will know they're in the AFC playoffs for a spot against 5th place in CONMEBOL. Only AFC and CONCACAF have matches tomorrow.

Nigeria hammers Tahiti 6-1. I shudder to think what Spain will do to them.
Ahhh the lovely groupings in the Confederations Cup strike again. 2009 was bad with Group A being S. Africa, Spain, Iraq, and New Zealand and Group B being Brazil, Italy, Egypt, and the US. 2013 strikes back with Brazil, Italy, Mexico, and Japan versus Spain, Uruguay, Nigeria, and Tahiti. Group A in 2009 was the worst (even with Tahiti in Group B this time around) but Group A here in 2013 is just about the toughest group I've ever seen, even with Mexico.

Spain will probably control possession for 88 minutes out of 90 while "only" scoring three goals. It will look pretty though.
Yep. It will look a lot like Brazil's win over the US in the 1994 WC, which ended just about 1-1, as in: 1 goal for the Brazilians, 1 possession in the Brazilian half of the field for the US.

So the qualifiers in Asia today have already been completed and Uzbekistan almost pulled it off. South Korea, Iran and Australia have joined Japan in punching their tickets to Brazil 2014.
Back to Uzbekistan. They needed to win big to pay South Korea if South Korea lost to Iran. Iran won 1-0 and Uzbekistan won 5-1. They fell two goals combined goals short of passing South Korea and now they will play either Oman or Jordan for the right to play a CONMEBOL team for a spot in the World Cup.

Perhaps it can be attributed to jingoism, but I was really hoping to see South Korea beat Iran so the Uzbeks could get in.

From Darren Rovell: Las Vegas Hotel posts largest favorite ever: Bet on Spain to beat Tahiti in Thursday’s Confederations Cup? Get $1 for every $500 you bet!

Scoreless at the end of the first half between the U.S. and Honduras. Really not liking the way we are playing tonight. Have to get all three points against an injury-riddled team such as this.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

This game is a bore. The US needs to step it up and, I know I'm biased, this crowd is terrible and not helping things.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

US gets the big three points with a win over Honduras. Nervy opening, but Jozy's been playing great lately.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Has anyone considered going to Brazil next summer for the World Cup?

I've kicked it around with a co-worker of mine. His wife is from Brazil and he should be able to get us to crash with his in-laws for some of the games. Would be a hell of a lot of fun to go with him and them.

Since I work for an airline, I can fly for free, I've looked into it a bit.

Tough though, as you're flying Standby. I had a friend do South Africa and he got stuck for 2 weeks because the flights were full.

I'm going to explore the possibility as it gets closer. Will be tough but it'd be unbelievable.
