World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Are you that dull?

The Cosmos didn't part with the name because MLS didn't want to pay Peppe Pinton's overinflated price. He finally found some suckers who did and those folks didn't get an MLS team because they didn't want to play by MLS' rules.

It was never about "not wanting to honor history" but always about $$$.
This.

Crystal Palace win promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 extra time win over Watford. It was a good game with ex-Arsenal keeper Almunia making some huge saves to keep Watford in the game.
Glad to see Almunia do well. He was a decent fellow while at Arsenal, but just lost his starting spot due to injury and couldn't get back in the mix.

Wow. And that's not a full A-squad for Germany.

wonder how the US will fare...<strike>Saturday, no?</strike> Sunday.

USMNT also faces a very good squad in Belgium tonight. I notice that Jurgen (dare we call him Coach K? ;)) is giving Klestjan a start and he played well in the Belgian league this year.

Felani's hair should be man of the match.

Benteke beats his 'for now' club teammate Guzan for 2 goals. Although, on neither did Guzan have much of a chance.

If I were Belgium, I'd declare myself an island in the concacaf region.

If Jack Warner were still in power, he would just to screw us. :D

The next time some soccer-playing European Nancy is rolling around in agony as if he'd been shot when he wasn't even touched, I hope he remembers Gregory Campbell and feels ashamed of himself.

Big week for USMNT!

The cardinal rule is "win at home, tie on the road." If you can do that, you are guaranteed of qualifying.

So far the US is in pretty good shape, they* are only 2 points off the pace (one road loss). They* really need two wins and a tie. That starts tonight. I'm glad Michael Bradley is back. He is the glue that settles the team if you'll pardon the mixed metaphor. Look for Omar Gonzalez to rebound as well: once he learns the international game he will be a beast! For the first time in a long time I am long-term optimistic about our defense.

* I'd like to put "we" since I've followed USMNT since the mid '90s but it just seems weird to include myself as part of their efforts....

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Halftime, USA - 1, Jamaica - 0 from an Altidore header off an assist from Zusi.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

I don't believe it! goal Jamaica 89[SUP]th[/SUP] minute on horrendous turnover. just escape with the tie at least please?

EDIT: or score a goal in stoppage time to get the win after all. :o

3 points on the road is a nice bonus! when you go back to the "win at home tie on the road" scoring, US is now 0, which puts us in first place in qualifying (especially if Mexico ties tonight)
