Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Oy...my poor Vilians. Villa has lost its last two games by a total of 12 goals. Oh and they have been shut out in both games. Yikes. What is going on in Brum?

now it is 3 by 15 goals. Is there a record for negative GD?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Van Persie is fun to watch but he sure seems like he'd be a major dink.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

I am curious to your reason for that? I hate Arsenal with a passion but I never thought that of him when he played there.

I dunno to be honest. He just has, "that look". Rubs me wrong for whatever reason and I say that as a United fan.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

I would love to know...I'd bet they are pretty close.
If Wikipedia is to be believed, Derby County finished 3rd in The Championship in 2006-7, getting themselves promoted to the Premier League for 2007-8, where they scored 20 goals, gave up 89, won one match, tied eight, and lost their remaining 29, promptly sending them back down to England's second level.

Ipswich Town finished last (22nd) in the 1994-5 season, finishing with a -57 goal differential (in 42 games, not 38), yet getting seven wins.

Neither Villa nor QPR will come close to those marks.

Well, he does endanger his life everytime he plays. That ball could kill him! Brave man!

In the least surprising news item of the new year, Messi won the Ballon d'Or.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Pleasantly surprised to see Abby Wambach named as FIFA's Woman Player of the Year. She deserved it, and how often do FIFA voters actually vote for the most deserving candidate?

Many folks had expected Wambach and Morgan to split to vote allowing Marta to win.

Syracuse now in dead last  but it's still fairly close for that fourth playoff spot with about 2 months left to go.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Dumb question: When are the game details released for the CONCACAF "Hex" games that are coming up over the next 9 months? Possibly looking into going to see a US Men's Qualifier here in the States, but can only find game dates and opponents on the CONCACAF site... Are these details not yet released? This is all I got so far for home dates:

March 22 vs Costa Rica
June 11 vs Panama
June 18 vs Honduras
Sept 10 vs Mexico
Oct. 11 vs Jamaica

No times or locations listed... Only game I can find info for is the one next month in Honduras... Just been looking at my various travel options for the next year and trying to make plans/arrangements... This is something my buddy and I have been eying for a while...

In case anyone cares about the women's soccer league, today was allocation day where the 55 eligible members of the US, Canadian and Mexican soccer teams were allocated to teams. Each team got three American players, except Western New York which got only two - but hometown hero and FIFA POY Abby Wambach is one of them. Alex Morgan was allocated to Portland and will be playing Seattle...that's like Brady suiting up for the Jets.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

After beating Rochester with a 3-pointer, Syracuse isn't in last anymore! Might be tied for it, but we win the tiebreak. Still 1.5 away from playoffs, but 3-7 is within 2 games of each other.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Notable transfers so far:

Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea to Liverpool
Demba Ba from Newcastle to Chelsea
Giuseppe Rossi from Villareal to Fiorentina

I know this is partly/mostly driven by my ignorance over how significant some of the other transfers around Europe might be, but it would seem that there really haven't been too many notable transfers this month. A lot of the big time possible transfers (Lampard, Sneijder, Balotelli perhaps) are taking their sweet time in materializing.
