World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

I'm very sad to see Fergie go. I think it spells bad days ahead for United. It really amazes me how much trouble they have had bringing new players into the squad the last four or five years. RVP is the only one who has had much impact. Phil Jones and Ashley Young have been decent at times but seems they're hurt a lot. I think David Moyes will get the job, but I'm not sure he's the right man for the job. He seems similar to Mark Hughes when he was with Blackburn, someone who is good at a smaller club but can't get it done with one of the top clubs. I hope I am wrong.

They could name Rafa then he would have coached at Liverpool, Chelski and United in a 3-year span...
Wow, hard to believe it hasn't even been three years since Liverpool sacked him. Seems like ages ago.
Wigan not getting a point yesterday just relieved a lot of stress at several clubs.
Yes it did.

Re. SAF, lots of teams have spent big amounts of money trying to achieve success but he's actually made it work year after year.

I'm not a Moyes guy either. I think Mourinho will either be great or it will be a disaster if he gets the United job. Another guy that's got some buzz is former super sub Ole Gunnar Solskjær who manages FK Molde in Norway. I also wouldn't mind giving a look to Jurgen Klopp of Dortmund. Please keep Rafa away from Old Trafford. :D

I thought sir alex was the best coach of any team, in any sport, world wide. I'm very sorry to see him go.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Apparently it is going to be Moyes taking over at Man U:

Everton first announced on its official Twitter account that Moyes, 50, would be leaving the club at the end of the season and had stated his intention to join United. In a statement on the club's website, Everton said, "The Manager met Chairman Bill Kenwright early yesterday evening [Wednesday 8th May] and confirmed his desire to join Manchester United."

Not as much as Everton.

Just has the Mark Hughes to Blackburn vibe to it. I think he's been solid at Everton, but what's he going to be like when he actually has some money to play with. I would've waited a little to see what the Mourinho situation would've been or approach Jurgen Klopp with an offer. I know I'm an eternal pessimist, but it didn't sit right that they moved so quickly.

I think they moved quickly because they've had their eye on Moyes for years.

I think they moved quickly because they've had their eye on Moyes for years.

One thing they stressed in the press release (or whatever you call it) was that they wanted someone, not only to manage the EPL club, but also to oversee their development programs too. They specifically mentioned "loyalty" as a criteria that they wanted the new coach to have, which is not among Mourinho's notable qualities. Ferguson will remain active as a director and "ambassador" for the club, and Moyes likely was be seen as someone who could collaborate with SAF rather than clash with him. I'm not a Man U fan, though I'm not particularly gratified when they lose either.

Thanks for posting that Posnanski link. Good article.

FYP, Blackburn was where Hughes was at his peak as a manager, Al-Citeh was where he crashed and burned.

Yeah. Thanks for that. Just screams that to me. I know Moyes has done a fine job developing talent, but I'm always uneasy when someone finally gets access to cash.

Another example would be Big Sam to Newcastle.

He looked like he was doing a good job at Bolton, then moved to Newcastle and went down in flames. He hasn't recovered the Bolton magic since then.
