Soccer: the only sport where referees make mistakes.

Back to back mistakes that all but hand Brazil the tying goal while taking away a player for the US in the only event the average American will watch.

You mean people are still watching after last summer, when again, referees made mistakes?

Right because there were no bad calls in the Super Bowl, or the Stanley Cup playoffs, etc.

What part of soccer never becoming popular don't you understand? People will likely continue to watch the World Cup, but when this kind of incompetence seemingly occurs all the time in big games, the sport is never going to gain great popularity.

So now another yellow card that is evidently made up.

I do agree that lloyd should have been sent off

Also I think the yellow card to rapinoe was given for a late tackle after the foul was already called on brazil

But the thing is, soccer is steadily becoming more popular. Ratings for the World Cup? Up. Ratings for the Gold Cup? Up. Ratings for the Champions League? Up. MLS attendances? Up. And there are poor refereeing decisions made in every one of those competitions. Yet, their popularity keeps increasing. Do you have any actual evidence that poor referee decisions are actually turning people away?

Except she was already in the tackle when the whistle was called. I think the referee has been very inconsistent. I'd like to know how much diving has to occur for a yellow to be issued, it's pathetic.

This is like a train wreck. I don't want to watch, but I can't help but wait for the next idiotic call.

Interesting phenomenon...

when's the last time neutral observers cheered for the US in anything?

Ha. Who in this thread (or anywhere really) said the officiating was great? Or even good? Or even competent?

Exactly, the only point was there is incompetent officiating in every sport. And no doubt this officiating crew is way out of their depth.
