Still, that's no excuse. Mexico lost two defenders in the first half, not to mention 5 guys to the tainted chicken.
We got beat by a better team and a better coach. Dolo going out and putting in Bornstein killed the US. That was the backup plan? Bradley has shown again he doesn't know what players to sub.

The biggest problem is we've become stagnant while Mexico developed talent. We're 4-5 years behind at best. Last two Gold Cup finals against Mexico: Mexico 9, USA 2. Embarrassing.

No support from Jones or Bradley either. And Howard has been average.

Jones' performance, or lack thereof, on the Dos Santos goal was remarkable. He had 2-3 opportunities to address Dos Santos and instead kept marking the invisible guy next to him or cutting off the pass...here is a tip, if he is 12 yards out and has room to shoot...he ain't gonna pass.

Mexico just has the game breaking players that the US program doesn't have (nor has ever had). Mexico's program is deep and it's disappointing to see how much the US struggled just keeping the ball on their feet in comparison to Mexican players.

The writing on the wall was when Mexico won the U-17s a while back. Meanwhile the US youth teams were struggling. And now, the U20s can't qualify, the Olympics looks questionable now, and the U17s look the same as years before, not good enough.

We're behind. And we don't have the coach nor the Fed to help things.

I'm in Pittsburgh this weekend and ask them to put this game on after the pirates. I'm being referred to as homosexual

You should have reminded them A) They cheer for a team called the Pirates (not too much of a stretch there) and B) IT'S THE PIRATES.

I knew the name/player dos santos, but ****, had no idea he was that good. He was all over the place.

The only consolation is we won't play our home qualifier in Mexico City, er I mean Los Angeles. Praying for a February Snow Day in Columbus in 2013.

we've gotten lucky I believe 2 out of the last three cycles... i keep saying if you can get a FIFA qualified field in Alaska go for it... of course i have to be careful 'cause it isn't like all our talent is coming from minnesota, michigan, and massachusetts. I still remember the 2000 qualifier on TV... USA/Mexico 32 degrees light rain. But, you know what, it isn't like they aren't doing the same to us... finding the worst field possible for us to play on

I have to imagine having the title game in Nuevo Baja California is a concession to not having the tournament in Mexico.

The US should have fired bradley some years ago. His system is just not that hot, and not creative at all, and he is poor at selecting players. We have the talent to compete but it's not generally on the national team. Klinsmann is the man and the sooner the better, But politically he is unlikely as he wants more control than the US is willing to give him.

I wish people would give up on Klinsmann. It's not gonna happen. Klinsmann wants total control over nearly everything and that ain't gonna happen (and to be honest USSF can't guarantee that kind of control).

Realistically BB won't be out but if he goes the likely choices would Kreis, Schmid, or maybe some foreign guy we don't know.

We've rebuilt a large chunk of our player development aparatus over the last few years. The problem for the "fix it now!" crowd is, those changes take a good ten years to produce results. It's way, way premature to throw everything out and start over.

Mexico got a little lucky, too. It's rare for U-17 success to translate to senior success.

Get over Klinsmann. He's wasn't an especially good coach back when he was a coach, and now he's been out of work for how many years? A real coach would have had a job in that time.

I know this topic has probably been beaten to death, but just something I've always thought of...

Offsides.

Has there ever been any movement to tweak the rule? I don't mean to offend the purists here as I actually like the rule in theory. The problem for me is I have a hard time getting on linesmen when they get it wrong because you're asking them to be looking in two different places at once. It's nearly impossible IMO.

Re: World Soccer XX: I paid Jack Warner $1M for the right to start this thread

Anecdotal evidence from games without offsides indicates that the result is so bad as to be unwatchable.

I'd be interested in experiments with an offside rule similar to hockey's.

What games were played without offsides? To be clear, that's not what I'm advocating.

Watching the women's World Cup, you see a lot of top shelf goals because the women keepers are not that tall and can't get to the high shots. What if they made the nets in the men's game 2 feet (.6 meters or so) higher?? Then we should see more scoring?
