Say they kick the U.S. out. What then? Mexico and a bunch of scrubs? Great confederation. Good luck holding the Gold Cup in Mexico every two years.
If they (the CFU) want the US out over this then CONMEBOL says thank you very much and welcome Mexico and Central America as well. But World Cu qualifying can be made difficult with switching of the process with more games and less chance to qualify.

Re: Norwich City back in the Premier League!

It wouldn't hurt to bring in the Aussies and some of the other contenders for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Getting them on our side would be useful with making the case for it. That way its just not us bringing it to FIFA's attention that the votes where rigged.
To have any kind of mass revolt you need The Brits (England, Scotland, Wales, and N Ireland) and Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, China, S. Korea, Australia, Mexico, the US, and the G14 clubs as well. Anyone of those parties hold out and it's dead in the water. All of them go and FIFA is toast, if those countries can force FIFA out of the IOC then it's really over.

Blatter was reelected this morning, after the delegates spent a few hours going after the English. 172 voted to elect, 17 voted to postpone.

Re: Norwich City back in the Premier League!

With Warner's temporary ouster, if the non-Caribbean members join together (Sunil, the head of the FMF, and representatives from Honduras and Panama), they have four votes, against two for Warner's toadies Austin and Horace Burrell of Jamaica. I think the main wild card here is the Panamanian. The FMF's interests align almost entirely with those of the U.S., and as an aspiring power in the confederation, I'm not so sure that Honduras is far behind.
I don't suppose Canada has a representative? Seems like they'd be on the side of sanity.

Brazil has little incentive to rock the boat right now with the WC headed there next.

Re: World Soccer XX: I paid Jack Warner $1M for the right to start this thread

The Argentinian delegate told the English they'd vote for them if they gave back the Falklands. Then followed that up by saying if he voted for the US, it'd be like voting for the English.

On that note, I'd like to congratulate the Argentinians for winning the last World Cup, since Argentina is like Spain. Dumbass.

Edit: Oh, he's the Senior Vice President of FIFA, and had this gem back in 2003.

"I do not believe a Jew can ever be a referee at this level. It's hard work and, you know, Jews don't like hard work."

Why do we put up with this **** again?

Despite all the ridiculousness in the rest of the post, I have to say that this is pretty hilarious.

FIFA is a real life example of why no one with any sanity wants the UN to have any kind of authority. Bribe 100 countries that won't ever sniff a World Cup and you can run the whole **** thing and threaten major countries like England for speaking out of turn and let some clown from Trinidad and Tobago (whose national stadium looks worse than my old high school's) run a confederation with Mexico and the United States in it.
Very true. What a total circus. You have to ask why it was the U.S. representative that had to do Blatter's dirty work though? Last thing we need is to make a bunch more folks mad at the U.S. And given Blatter's character, I doubt he'll pay Blazer back in any meaningful way for Blazer doing his dirty work. The whole thing is a sham regardless of what Blazer did or not.

That was originally posted by me, not Priceless, and the voting representation is exactly as stated: Warner (deposed), Austin, Burrell, Gulati, FMF guy, Honduras guy, Panama guy. There is a non-voting Canadian representative, which is nice and all but makes no difference at all to the balance of power on the committee.

According to the reports from the media and from Austin, it went exactly as expected: Austin and Burrell want Blazer out, Mexico, Panama, and Honduras said no. North and Central America seem to be distancing themselves from the Carribean.

The situation must be "monitored"!

Here's the thing. Between the horse**** officiating that pretty much got laughed off from the last WC, the complete unwillingness to use any kind of technology, and their Congresses which apparently consist of everyone ripping on Anglo-speaking countries and bringing in decades old political slights, the United States is at a serious disadvantage even ignoring our slow and late developing interest in the sport. The last year has pretty much proven to me that they want our money, and then want us to shut up and bend over. We're never going to be an elite soccer power, because even if we developed the talent base for it, ~170 bitter tiny countries will find new and interesting ways to screw us every four years and on every vote that comes up, because they can't do it elsewhere.

Maybe you guys that have been following the sport longer already knew this. But it's pretty much the exact same feeling I have when I watch Western Michigan's football team play their 2-3 paycheck games each year vs. Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Nebraska, etc. All the tables are stacked against them, and if they win, it's a minor upset and will change nothing in the long term. If nothing changes, I have a serious doubt that by 2014 ESPN, Adidas and company will be able to draw me back in after this.

Remember how I said not very many people like the FA? This is what is coming to fruition, the FA sent many years stifling practically everybody outside of Europe with their power at FIFA. Now, it's the opposite and everybody likes to get a dig in. And guess what? Every other English speaking nation gets a shot too.

Again, why are we worrying about that? If we had a high position to fall from, sure. But what exactly are they going to do, vote against us harder?

Because everything at the USSF is dependent upon success at the World Cup. Everything. And what will they do? Make our lives at the World Cup a living hell, thought that Slovenia game was bad? That will be nothing and the Gold Cup in a month will be a preview of it.

So, if I understand the argument, we can't take any action against a corrupt organization.... because that corrupt organization will retaliate by doing corrupt things? I promise I'll stop harping on about it, but that's just a ludicrous argument to me.

Besides, as you sort of point out with your Slovenia reference, it's not like referees are falling over themselves to be impartial to the U.S. as is.

You can't just start spouting off like the English have done, the USSF can be affected by spouting off because the USSF has a lot more to lose. England can jump ship and whine to almost no ill effect but if the USSF does it, MLS is in the tank, the USSF is in the tank, and soccer in this country is in the tank. Yes, you push to make changes, but you have to do it the right way.

You mean with 1000 dollar handshakes right?? ;)

Re: Norwich City back in the Premier League!

I think this whole thing is a big reminder that we live in a world, large portions of which do not look down on corruption, bribery, or whatever term best fits, but rather see it as just part of how business is done.
