Really, calling the dogs of is substituting in Wayne Rooney?

At the moment, Wigan is safe, Birmingham was safe by a goal until Wolves scored a consolation just a minute ago. Even on points and GD, but Wolves are safe by just their superior goal total...

Blech. Not too pleased with how that finished at the bottom.

People on Twitter are saying that Blackpool have edged out Fulham for the Europa League spot based on Fair Play. That means that two relegated teams (Birmingham and Blackpool) will be in Europe next season.

Strange 9th place finish for Villa, they were teetering on relegation not that long ago...Houllier going down with the heart problem seemed to get them motivated...great ploy!!!

So, with the epic choke by Arsenal, is it okay to criticize Wenger now?

Thank goodness Blackburn found a win today.

Indeed. This outfit had no business finishing in the top half. Darren Bent deserves a huge chunk of the credit.

After watching the late season swoon(s) under MON's leadership, it is good to see them finish in good form. Albrighton was a nice addition, now we need to see if we keep Downing and AYoung or lose 1-2 of them; as well as what they do with the grumpy backliners that tried the mid-season coup attempt. The youth movement worked, Pires and Ireland, not so much. Given their manager resigned at the start of the season, I'd have taken 9th if offered at the time.

Hopefully the overall economy improving raises Lerner's wealth back up to where he can spend some money on players.

Congratulations to Lille, who win Ligue 1 for the first time in almost 60 years. At the other end of the table, with one week left to play there appear to be a whopping nine clubs who might wind up in the final relegation position.

Nice to see Wolves stay up, though I'd rather have seen Blackburn go down than Blackpool. Glad Birmingham and McLeish are gone. Arsenal's season mercifully comes to and end, or maybe one could say it had ended weeks ago, from the manner of their recent play.

US Gold Cup Roster

US Gold Cup Roster

US Gold Cup Roster

GOALKEEPERS-Tim Howard, Nick Rimando, Marcus Hahnemann

DEFENDERS- Jonathan Spector, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo, Oguchi Onyewu, Eric Lichaj, Tim Ream, Jonathan Bornstein, Clarence Goodson,

MIDFIELDERS- Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Sacha Kljestan, Robbie Rogers, Freddy Adu, Benny Feilhaber, Jermaine Jones

FORWARDS- Juan Agudelo, Chris Wondolowski, Jozy Altidore

No Timmy Chandler, Alejandro Bedoya, or Teal Bunbury. Freddy Adu, Robbie Rogers, and Jonathan Bornstein somehow make the roster. It's going to be a crapshoot for the US.

Chandler apparently begged off, which may be an ominous sign (he's not cap-tied to the U.S.).

Bornstein remains, on his day, a good option at left back.

The Rogers selection is ridiculous unless he's had a miraculous development of his soccer brain, which I find highly doubtful. He's got the soccer sense of a rock.

Is this one of the important gold cups or not? I forget which one qualifies the winner for the Confed Cup.

This is the important one. The one in two years is the glorified friendlies.

I do like our midfield. Bradley and Donovan and Dempsey and Edu and Jones are all solid players. (And that's without Holden, too.) I'm glad Gooch got loaned someplace where he actually got some matches. I also really like the following from his Wikipedia page, especially "alleged black belt":
On November 5, 2010; Onyewu made international headlines when he and fellow teammate Zlatan Ibrahimović engaged in a fight during training, prior to a league match against Bari. It was reported that Onyewu suffered a reckless tackle from Ibrahimović, causing Onyewu to confront him. Ibrahimović charged towards him, and Onyewu choked the alleged black belt out.

Bornstein hasn't played in Mexico. Heath Pearce would have been a better selection in my opinion. The Chandler thing is disappointing, but I can see why he doesn't want to play in the Gold Cup, he had a long season in Germany and if he's not bound to the US yet, why would he basically kill any downtime for the Gold Cup?

I'm thinking we'll see a 4-2-3-1 initially. Maybe something like this:

Altidore
Donovan-Bradley-Dempsey
Jones/Spector-Edu
Boca-Gooch-Ream/Goodson-Dolo

That lineup let's Agudelo come in for Altidore, move Dempsey up top, then run a 4-4-2 if they need a goal.

I don't like Altidore alone up top. I don't think his game or work rate is at the point where you can trust him to carry the striking duties alone.

Oh and seperately, what ever happened to Eddie Johnson's career?
