Everything about the French sucks. :D
I rather like their cheese. (I never understood how "cheese-eating" came to be used as an insult, cheese is awesome!)

So went to my first Revs game at the new Gillette last night. It was cold, Toledo is a horrible ref, but in a more macro sense, the Revs need a smaller stadium. Want to make 12,000 people look like 2,000? Put them in a huge NFL arena. The Fort does terrific work with the energy, but those of us on the sides had terrific sightlines and were really close to the field, but no energy. Just so disconnected from everyone else in the stadium.

Patriot Place is kinda cool, its pretty much a generic outdoor mall excepting the Pro Shop, they need more Pats/Revs flavor.

Yeah, a small SSS is a massive improvement over an NFL stadium. It would be great for the league if the Revs got that done at some point.

It's not like US Soccer/MLS is giving them much incentive to do so though, awarding them big time friendlies and such.

Garber did say one thing that I thought was interesting. Claiming that the Vancouver model was being explored for some other teams that have been struggling to get their own projects moving. The Whitecaps are playing in a temporary stadium this year that only took 111 days to construct, and will be totally torn down when they are done with it.

Kit. Pitch. Football. Referring to a match/game as a "tie".

**** globalism. Some stuff I just can't say without feeling like a poser.
Agreed. I play soccer, on a field, with my cleats and jersey, in a game. I ****ing hate that crap and the stupid people who seem to think that all soccer fans should say it because they have to be "different".

So, when hockey players or fans refer to a "sweater" rather than a jersey, do you hate that too?

Not happy about this at all. Especially because it may involve the Tartan Army.

Neymar Says He Was Racially Abused

Not diminishing it if it did happen, but this quote makes me wonder:

“They were jeering me a lot, even when I was about to kick the penalty,” Neymar told Sportv. “The entire stadium was jeering. This atmosphere of racism is totally sad. We leave our country to play here and something like this happens.

I mean, I've seen loads of people get jeered when they were about to take a penalty. White people, brown people, orange people, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean racism. The article also says the banana came from a section of mostly Brazil fans. I'd like to hear more before casting judgment, at any rate.

Also, maybe I just haven't seen it yet, but with a plethora of cameras at the game ,you'd think at least one person would be able to get a picture of it, right?

They say they're working on it. In their defense, it's not exactly easy to find a site in the greater Boston area that's big enough, with good access to public transportation (preferably the T rather than commuter rail), doesn't cost too much, and doesn't have crushing NIMBY issues.

Oh, sure, I'm not saying I expect it to be easy, I'm just saying that it's an end result that's worth putting in the effort required to achieve it.

Maybe if they tore down their ****ty old baseball stadium they could build something nice there. :D

They almost would be better off just using one of the local colleges football stadiums, or former football stadiums sites perhaps. You would have to think that BU wouldn't mind getting something like about a 20,000 or so seat stadium gifted to them that they wouldn't really have to pay the upkeep on. Might get them to bring back the football perhaps as well.

Wait, you mean French people aren't the only ones who might ever do something bad? Stop the presses!

Italian and Spanish fans are right up there. I'm just mad because I thought English/Scottish fans were better than that. I mean you can easily jeer someone without having to go racial.

Doesn't the WPS (or whatever they call it now) team play at Harvard?

I'm not sure. Part of me would love to believe that some random Brazilian fan brought a bannana to a game. The other part of me thinks that anyone who has been following this sport for more than five seconds knows the racial conotations of bringing a bannana to a soccer game.

But seriously, I do take your point, and if it did happen it's obviously terrible. My point is simply that I'd like to see some more evidence first.

It is kind of silly, but if its part of a local culture (which "sweater" would be, depending on how closely you live to Canada), as opposed to co-opting European sayings for the purpose of posing, then at least it makes some amount of sense.

(See also: why Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake are always going to be a much more retarded name for a team than Chicago Fire ever could be)

In other news, how about this headline: Friends bring murdered teen's coffin to soccer match
