World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

And ManU is being slowly destroyed by some guy from Florida.

I'm actually surprised that some insanely rich guy hasn't made a bid for United. I like the supporters group that wants to buy the club, but I don't think they'll have enough money to go after big time transfers. I don't wanted Man United turning into Leeds United.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Soccer Insider tweets that only 6,000 tickets have been sold for US v. Colombia in Philly next week.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Americans for Americans...but I would rather have the owner of the Red Sox than the owner of the Rangers who gave A-Rod that ridiculous contract.

You'd rather have a guy that cries about other team's spending while he's still spending more than 95% of the league? How's he going to keep up with ManU and Man City?

Keep up with Manchester United? You mean the team in debt up to its eyeballs, whose big signing this summer was a homeless kid? :D

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Like I said, I never liked the Glazers. They are in over their heads. I just have a feeling the supporters group won't be able to compete with City, the Russian Mafiya (Chelsea) or Arsenal.

Galaxy are in tonight and Red Bull are in soon, both are sold out. From talking with folks, there is some saturation with so many friendlies and MSL packed into Philly over the last 5 months.

The Celtic, Chivas and Manu games were all tepid and people may be tiring of barnstorming games with jigsaw puzzle sides playing for nothing.

Might not explain it all, but it explains some. With schools back in session kids are playing HS and club so parents are plenty packed with soccer and a 'day off' might not be filled with another game.

And if the game might conflict with a Phillies game, nobody will go.

Hahahahahaha.

They're calling Chicarito Baby Killer.

It's supposed to be something like baby-faced Assassin but is just coming out as BABY KILLER.

Hahahaha. Oh man.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

What's he doing now, TBA?

He is threatening legal action to prevent the sale, saying he has fired the three board voters that voted yes to sell the club.

He really thinks he deserves more for running the club into the ground. He's gotten a fair offer, and he's being greedy.

Ouch. Typical D-bag behavior from Hicks. Like I said, I may pick on you for liking Pool. However, they are a club that deserves better than that.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

If anyone is watching the Galaxy-Union game right now, yes, ESPN did just show a fan flipping off Beckham for 10 seconds on live TV.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

The boo-birds were on Beckham a bit but the crowd gave him a nice ovation when departing. After the game he ran over to a girl and her dad and gave her his jersey..he got a nice round of applause for that. Landon did nothing. Beckham got the assist but Oroszco has to be on Buddle better than that.

Union looked uneasy the whole game, some felt maybe they were trying too hard to do well against Galaxy on national TV...?

The failure to matriculate the ball through the midfield and instead tie their hopes to long passes was a problem.

Mwanga's broken collarbone seems to have made him tentative...right now he isn't a good target, nor is he getting to the ball in the course of play.

Losing Fred at 15min with a serious gash to the head didn't help and while Nowak usually does well with subs, Nakazawa was not influential at all.

The other two subs were way too late.

18,799 PPL Park record for the game.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

I don't know, I don't feel as bad for Liverpool fans as some do. First the flag burning, now videos like this:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RO55BazkiZ4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RO55BazkiZ4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

If you can make it through the whole thing, they compare Hicks to someone who raped his family.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Hold on, are we supposed to feel bad for them? I fail to see why.
