World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I understand why the official would have thought it didn't go in though, b/c it hit the crossbar twice so he figured it just bounced straight up and down. Also, as they've pointed out on the broadcast he wasn't too close to the endline.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Worst officiated half of the world cup by a mile, we're due to get some calls in the second half.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Outside of the goal, I didn't find anything particularly disagreeable with the refs.

?

How about England learn to play defense.

Can't blame the linesman for not seeing that goal. He was in the right position. Blame archaic FIFA for not having replay.

He's clearly an England fan and looking to lay blame somewhere else. England's d looked like ours out there.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Oh man, I can't wait for TBA to come on here. The whining will be of Homeric proportions. ;) :D

Agreed, But they had leveled it.

There is clearly a need for some sort of a goal judge or something like that.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I think this is one time I wouldn't blame him. Getting that call wrong is unacceptable.

Yeah, it was a bad call, but given the impossible situation the assistant ref is in, it's a crapshoot. He was in the correct position 10 yards up the line where the last defender was. I've been in that position myself as a ref. I can sympathize.

Oh totally. I don't blame the assistant too much. Still, Blatter's stance on video technology is ridiculous. Or, even if he doesn't want video, station an extra official behind the goal. Problem solved.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

No problem with that non-goal whatsoever. The referee very clearly made a decision so that's OK.

Or at least that's what an English fan told me about Edu's goal.

I'm fine with an extra official but there is zero and I mean zero chance of video replay. No way, no how. Soccer is unique in how it keeps time (well, not entirely unique but at least among the primary sports within the US). It would necessarily change that.

And I just don't see any scenario in which they change the way time flows for a game.

And that's game. No whining about that anymore.

Yeah, tell that to the U.S. team that's been screwed by the officials for 3 straight world cups.

You're talking to the wrong country to expect sympathy now.

Three games? Two you'd have my agreement, but I don't think there's anything that was bad enough to cost us the game yesterday. We just didn't play to win.
