Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness
A couple questions for those who know more about US soccer than me...
1. To me, it's about consistency and building. I thought Bruce Arena was the guy until our poor showing in 2006. Bob Bradley has taken us to the Confederations Cup Final and round of 16. Seems to me like we're way ahead of where we thought we were four years ago. While disappointed today, I am happy to at least make the knockout stage. How do we build on that and avoid a '98/'06 repeat? Does Bradley stay on as coach? My guess is yes, but there are some pretty bright soccer minds outside the United States...
2. We allegedly have one of the top keepers in the world and IMO have a pretty good mix at midfield with Bradley, Donovan, and Dempsey. Personally, I love a lot of the work Altidore does, but seems we're lacking a true, pure striker. Finally, the defense is a problem. Simply not good enough or consistent enough. Any rising stars? You can't make a habit of falling behind at this level and expect to answer the bell each time.
Ridiculous. The turnover, followed by the immediate reckless play did that in. Of course, he shouldn't have started in the first place. Typical US soccer nonsense being done in with poor management choices.
