Man, how do you score a goal like Villa's first one and then dink that penalty like he did?

Sergio Ramos has girl hair:

Xavi spends too much time on his hair:

If I'm Vicente Del Bosque, I have to be telling some of my players (Xavi in particular) to shoot the **** ball when they get the chance, and reminding Ramos that he's a defender and he doesn't need to be getting himself up to the penalty spot in open play.

Dude, Xavi's shot is horrendous, especially from distance. A passing genius, but if he has any other option I'd tell him to distribute. Its likely they'll put a better effort on goal.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I wonder if the North Korean soccer team will be put in prison for that egg they laid versus Portugal?

That's a safe bet. Their keeper should be searching for the South Koreans to beg for asylum

North Korea's soccer team has not been immune to its country's human rights abuses. The team's 5-3 loss against Portugal at the 1966 World Cup, which knocked them out of the competition, led to several investigations by the authorities, after which many players were forcibly relocated or imprisoned. Chol-hwan Kang, the South Korean defector who wrote about his time in the North Korean gulags in The Aquariums of Pyongyang, says he recognized a player from the 1966 team in prison with him.

Oh, right, gotta love seeing Pique get kicked in the face, spend less than a minute on the sideline getting patched up, and then come back onto the field with what looked like a wad of paper towels stuck in his mouth to staunch the bleeding.

It was the most manly a Spanish player had ever been.

Your dignity will be taken away much quicker.

Edit: On a different note (coincidently, vuvuzelas don't have different notes), I'm wondering if having all final group games at the same time really prevents shenanigans. Mexico-Uruguay and Portugal-Brazil have a lot of shenanigan potential already.

Just to clarify, are you calling MLS a decent league? And are you saying MLS referees are better than the ones we are seeing in the World Cup?

American bias is one thing, but saying MLS is a step above the leagues in Belgium, Uruguay or even Africa is kind of crazy.

Do the best refs move freely to the best leagues, like the players? If so, the relative suckiness of national leagues isn't an issue.

I’ve seen vuvuzuela type things at hockey rinks for many years, and they’ve never been particularly annoying, because the people who had them only blew them occasionally, like when their team scored. The bad thing at the WC is the constant drone. It’s like a rink that has an air horn or a siren that they blow when a goal is scored instead blowing it constantly.

Well, better to prevent some shenanigans even if you can’t prevent all. And I mildly disagree with you on those two games. First and second place in Group A means the difference between playing Argentina and South Korea/Greece. That’s a significant difference. And in Group G, even if both teams play for a tie, it’s really not hurting anything. Cote d’Ivoire could tie Portugal in points if Portugal loses, but they have a nine goal differential to make up.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

question if two teams in the group end up tied on points. is the first tie breaker head to head or simply goal differential?

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

lol.. france concedes on the 20th minute to south africa... henry can only be thinking, 'i wsh i hadn't handled the ball against ireland'...
