Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

I love the Mexican commercials. Dudes singing in a Corona commercial rule. Plus, the chicks on Univision are muy caliente!

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Looked like a fair shoulder challenge to me, plus the South African got off the shot, so has no real complaint.

Not then. Earlier. The Mexican defender had his arm pulling the SA striker back and the SA striker went to ground.

I saw that one live and my first thought was PS. On the slo-mo I wasn't as sure. But I thought it was a downward push, not a pull. The SA guy didn't play it up at all, that might have clinched it.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

SA getting a point makes Group A a little more interesting. It also opens the door for Uraguay (which may close about 3:55 EST). to get through.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

In case anyone was wondering, Bradley confirmed that Altidore will be in the starting 11 tomorrow.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Really wish they could have buried it instead of hitting that post.

Watched the game on CBC.

I didn't. How was the announcing? I'd like your opinion. I normally am not a fan of their coverage. Who did the play-by-play? Nigel Reed and Jason DeVos drive me nuts.

well, I'll be honest, I'm still pulling in the Windsor station over the old analog airwaves, so right there will tell you how good the view of the game was. I still don't see why they haven't at least started to broadcast in Digital, but I digress.

As far as their announcing the game, I think they did alright, didn't make too much about any missed penalties or other chances as well. Then again, I should remind you that my first real exposure to Soccer started back in 2001 when Bayern Munich won the Champions League while I was in Germany, and while I was there to study German at the time, they were usually going too fast for me to understand anyways, and well, I would rather just go with what my own eyes are showing me anyways.

Really not used to listening to the broadcasters much, in any sport.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

I dunno... could've been a penalty, but would've been a harsh one.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

The way Uruguay can beat France is if they dress like Germans. The French will surrender then. :D

Sorry had to do it.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Uruguay and France should be a good matchup. Uruguay is underrated, and France may be a tad overrated, but in the end I think France has too much in the middle and enough up front to put up a couple goals to take down Uruguay. I'll say 2-1 France.

Interesting note...Uruguay's 15 World Cup victories are the fewest for any country that has won the World Cup...and they won it twice (although, it only took 7 victories to win the Cup twice when they won it in '30 and '50).

The next fewest victories for a Champion...England and France each have 25 (also the only single winners of the cup).

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Uruguay should totally come out in green as a reminder that France should NOT be there.

Eh I didn't see anything even close to a penalty in that game, but maybe I'm just old school. To me, they're given out to easily for it being such a game changing play. I don't have a stat, but would like to know conversion percentages.
