Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

South Africa NEARLY puts one in, and draws another corner...and another.

finally some sustained pressure from Bafana Bafana

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

It's just rare that an attacking player is behind the GK so it rarely comes up.

it's funny because the way some of the mexicans responded, not sure if they knew the rule either.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

As I've been saying in the buildup, players still don't know quite how this ball flies. Perez keeps judging these corners wrong.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Only 1 added minute, so should be nearing the end of the 1st.

Mexico had the better part of play, but South Africa responded and had some quality chances late in the half.

HALF TIME!!!

0-0

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Ah crap, how am I supposed to go to work at halftime of a 0-0 match?

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

wow i've played soccer my whole life and never knew that was a rule. never even seen it come up before.

same... played through college and then for an amateur team afterwards and never seen it come up...

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

McManaman points out that the GK coming out is what put Vela offside, though maybe not in quite such clear wording as would've been helpful.

BBC concur - "The goalkeeper came out, which was exactly the wrong thing to do, but it ended up saving the goal." :)

I think the studio guys just didn't want to embarrass the announcer, we'll see if the announcer corrects himself this half or just ignores it.

He actually tried to blame the goalkeeper when the real problem is he didn't know the rule. Class.
