South Africa finally getting some possession and they draw a free kick late in the 16th minute...from about 30 yards out or so.

Let's see what this ball can do!

Dos Santos nearly puts in the first goal of the cup after a nice counter from Mexico after a SA free kick.

South Africa gets the Yellow Card (Kikgacoi) for taking down Dos Santos on a run. Mexico now with a Free Kick from about 30-35 yards.

And as with South Africa's kick earlier, it sails over the goal.

Mexico with a glorious chance in the box (Franco), but SA keep was able to make a big save to keep the game scoreless.

Mexico goal....but offside???? wow, that was a homer call.

No goal, terrible call.

He's offside because there have to be two SA players between Vela and the goal line, and he's behind the GK.

Can't these announcers learn a few basic rules before the world's biggest tournament?

Yeah, I can't believe the announcers don't understand that rule. I barely follow soccer and I get it.

wow i've played soccer my whole life and never knew that was a rule. never even seen it come up before.

It's just rare that an attacking player is behind the GK so it rarely comes up.

Edit to add: And more rare that the attacking player is behind the GK, but not behind the last defending outfield player.

Correct, didn't see the Keeper was off the line until the replay.

Thought the linesman was trying to screw Mexico, which I would be all for :p:D:D

Correct Call made...

0-0, with just a couple minutes left in the half, SA with a corner.
