Good win right before the World Cup.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Whatever the hell that noise is, I had to mute it. So annoying!

How did you already forget those things from last summer? The vizuvelas or whatever the hell they're called. I really hope they stop micing the crowd for these games.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Robben is now a major doubt after limping off with a hamstring injury in the friendly with Hungary.

Huge blow to Holland if its the case.

I think it might have been a little worse today since it looked like Tyler and Harkes were sitting in a pretty open commentary box, right near the crowd. At bigger stadiums, maybe that won't be the case.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

So whats the starting XI vs England?

I think that depends on how gooch feels, or how Bradley feels about his effectiveness.

Howard, Bocanegra, Cherundolo, DeMerit, Onyewu, Dempsey, Donovan, Bradley, Clark, Buddle, Altidore if they play by pure position.

If they decide to make Dempsey a Forward then i think Buddle is out and Feilharber becomes the midfielder.

I know Bornstein and Beasley have a lot of caps also, but just my guess.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

Carlos Simon named referee for England-USA matchup.

Just getting that out there so we can get TBA's full complaint card ahead of time.

I would go with Howard; Cherundolo, Onyewu (Goodson), Demerit, Bocanegra: Dempsey, Edu, Bradley, Donovan; Altidore, Buddle.

I think Bradley goes with Clark over Edu though, and wouldn't rule out Findley starting.

He reffed the USA-Czech Republic game where he dished out 7 cards.

I hate card-happy refs in WC play because of accumulation issues.

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

I don't think anybody on either team (USA or Australia I mean) knows how to judge the flight of that ball yet. Time after time after time it was sailing over the heads of defenders, keepers, strikers who thought they were in the right place to play it. Are the ESPN commentators on a gag order not to talk about it? They kept blaming the sun for Hahnemann having trouble with high balls, even when the ball was coming from the side away from where the sun was setting.

They mentioned how you had to hit it perfect, but they also attributed a lot of it to a crappy field (and it was).

Re: World Soccer XIII: Through the Group Stages

What's the deal with all these pre-World Cup injuries to star players? Did this happen in 2006?

That's true, they did. I dunno, it seemed to me like the ball was sailing further than players expected, though.
