Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Another random draw:

Code:
Seed Group 1 Group 2 Group 3 Group 4 Group 5 Group 6 Group 7 Group 8
1 South Africa	England France Germany Brazil Argentina Spain Italy
2 Uruguay Chile Ghana Denmark Algeria Serbia Slovakia Japan
3 Greece N. Korea United States Australia S. Korea Ivory Coast	Cameroon Portugal
4 Honduras Switzerland	Netherlands	Nigeria Slovenia Mexico New Zealand	Paraguay

Great for England; not so much for us.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

I'm guessing if an English league team was protesting there would be no talk of England being banned from the World Cup.

I wouldn't think so, but the English FA enjoys a special position in the governance of the game (as part of the IFAB, which is practically an equal to FIFA in some respects), so they're really not instructive.

It would be more interesting if it were Italy, Germany, Brazil, or Argentina.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

What a ******* joke.

The penalty against Man U? I'd agree, although by the rule book that was absolutely a foul (Vidic almost deshirted him), it is never called, and you can't just have an assistant start to rectify 100 years of ignoring shirt pulling on free kicks in the box on a whim.

I'm not entirely sure Rooney deserved a penalty either, so it's kind of a wash.

is the Man U on espn2? i just saw the west ham go to half on fsc. (i just woke up and got back from dunkin'....)

Didn't Juventus, Milan, and Fiorentina appeal their penalties in court? I don't believe Italy was summarily tossed from Euro 2008 qualifying as a result.

Are the Pompey fans singing 12 days of Christmas? Presumably with different words.

Considering their new boss, wouldn't that be "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel?"

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

You know, for all the times this season Liverpool has dominated games and lost or tied...it feels good to win when Everton was clearly the better side.

Into 5th place. With our rash of injuries than can be nary a complaint on the Merseyside for the position we're in, three points behind Spurs, 8 behind United.

IMO, Andre Marriner has missed two penalties, each side deserving one.

Chelsea has this ability to foul in the penalty area with the ball in the air like the rules do not apply to them.

And Sagna just hauled Anelka down.
