World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Random question: Help me think of some soccer teams that wear primarily green. I'm asking to try to come up with a jersey to buy and wear, which means I've already ruled out Ireland, Celtic and Mexico (ew, ew and double ew), Nigeria and Werder Bremen (no ties to either of them), and Wolfsburg (green and orange is a horrendously ugly color combination). Also ruled out the Sounders because the green they wear looks like vomit. Other ideas?

Cameroon's national team....a great jersey!

Panathiniakos... good call... what are your feelings about drugs, jmh?
I like alcohol, that's a drug.
That's not bad, and I could totally do a Samuel Eto'o shirt. Anyone know how Puma's sizing runs? (I wear a size larger in Nike than I do in Adidas, so if you know that Puma fits like one or the other, that's great info.)

I think you're mixing up the color schemes of Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen. Isn't it Bremen that's green and orange, whereas Wolfsburg is green and white?

I'd err on the large side of things, never had a Puma kit, but skin tight seems to be the direction these things are trending.

Oh, maybe so.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

So we're all trying to decide which international soccer team to glom onto for the purpose of prancing around in a specific colored shirt?

God... this is such high level twit-ery.

when you describe it like that, it almost sounds like it should be a Monty Python skit. ;)

Nobody is glomming onto any teams, I'm just shopping for a green shirt and thought a soccer shirt might be more distinctive than a funny t-shirt. The whole point of this exercise has been to find something that I would wear on its own merits. (Personally, I'd rather have a shirt for a player I'm a fan of from a team I'm indifferent toward than be one of those tools with a green Mets t-shirt or Yankees hat or an Ireland shirt even though I'm not Irish.)

I'd still go with the Tim Howard Goalie Kit ;)

The USA back line is going to be a major, major concern in South Africa.

I actually thought they were okay, save Johnny Bornstein of course. Without Onyweu or Cherundolo available it wasn't a bad effort.

Bit of good news is Algeria got hammered by the Serbs in Algiers.

I think if we can get everyone healthy for the summer (knock on wood), the Spector-Onyewu-DeMerit-Bocanegra defense that did so well in the Confederations Cup (or at least, in the matches against Egypt and Spain and the first half of the final) could do a pretty good job. (Though note that Bornstein played left back in all three group stage matches, including the win over Egypt.) I still don't think Spector and Bocanegra offer as much going forward as Cherundolo and Bornstein/Pearce, but they're a lot stronger at the back.

Now if we could only get Jermaine Jones healthy.

Was just playing around on the DirecTV web site and saw that Fox Soccer Plus is available for $14.99/month. Ouch.
