World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

In the article it says Fabregas scored a goal and then pointed to his leg in front of the Arsenal fans...what message was he sending?
"Next time you meet someone from Stoke-on-Trent, break their leg"?

:D

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Horrible tackle on Aaron Ramsey by a Stoke player. Shades of Eduardo last year. Early reports are a possible broken leg. :(

The tackle on Eduardo was absolutely awful. This one looked more unlucky than anything else. Shawcross was devastated.

There was some good commentary on the subject this morning on the talk shows...it wasn't intentional but it was reckless was what I took from the conversation.

**** Michael Owens and his hamstring...maybe Rooney stays on the bench if Owens doesn't get hurt.

But that tackle happens 50 times a season and no one gets hurt. It happened so fast even in slow motion you can't really tell where Shawcross made contact, just that it was below the knee and above the ankle.

I hear you, just recounting what was said, it was clear 1-2 of the guys were either supporters or just taking the 'reckless' position to facilitate a discussion. Their point was that the outcome indicates he had his boot up too high and whether he meant it or not, that it is the player's responsibility to play in control and avoid that outcome.

Both sides said it was clear there was no malice, just bad timing. How much one could expect Shawcross to sense the bad timing it in a split-second, and adjust, is what keeps talk shows and message boards buzzing.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

I saw the game live and it was a 50-50 ball. No malice in the challenge. The tackle on Eduardo was dirty, but this wasn't. I do understand the ref's position. Shawcross was devastated. Ramsey was showing promise and I hope he comes back.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

At least we aren't hearing anyone say it was Ramsey's fault for being too quick, like Alex McLeish claimed last year regarding Eduardo's injury. Or saying Eduardo's tackle might not even be a yellow card, as Steve Bruce did.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Random question: Help me think of some soccer teams that wear primarily green. I'm asking to try to come up with a jersey to buy and wear, which means I've already ruled out Ireland, Celtic and Mexico (ew, ew and double ew), Nigeria and Werder Bremen (no ties to either of them), and Wolfsburg (green and orange is a horrendously ugly color combination). Also ruled out the Sounders because the green they wear looks like vomit. Other ideas?

Plymouth Argyle and Yeovil Town are green. Hibernian in Scotland. FC Gronigen in Holland

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Ooh, Borussia Moenchengladbach's away shirts this year have green in them, and Michael Bradley plays there, but I don't think there's any way I could get my hands on one in a reasonable amount of time or without paying 25 euros for international shipping.

I'm assuming that this is for St. Patty's day?

Irish clubs with green kits:

Shamrock Rovers F.C.
Bray Wanderers A.F.C.
Uh.... Ireland?

Had it been me, a handshake isn't all Terry would be missing. Would anyone except the most diehard of Chelsea supporters have blamed Bridge if he'd have sucker punched the *****?

I liked what I read in the Guardian, where someone suggested he did shake his hand, but hold onto it for 3 minutes and just stare into Terry's eyes.
