Pot 3 will MOST LIKELY be the three unseeded CONMEBOL teams (Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chile) and the five unseeded CAF teams; the only one that doesn't really belong there is Algeria, otherwise the competition is relatively even.
Pot 4 will MOST LIKELY be the three CONCACAF teams and the five AFC teams.
The FA of Ireland has called on FIFA to order a replay of its match against France. This SHOULD happen, but you know it won't.

Ireland had well over 200 minutes and couldn't manage more than a goal. Now they want 90 more?
France had well over 200 minutes and couldn't manage more than a single fair goal. Now they should instantly go through because of one of the most blatant referee fails in recent memory?
Goes both ways. But I agree - the Irish complaint is going nowhere.
Was it? That's our two best attacking players out, plus our starting keeper, plus two of our best four defenders (Onyewu and Cherundolo), IMO.I understand Dempsey and Donovan were missing, which is huge, but that was basically our attack and defense out there.

Wouldn't mind getting put with England

However, it was the Irish defense that didn't bother to mark Henry or Gallas. Standing around with your arm in the air looking at the ref isn't a real solid defense.
If Onyewu and Davies miss the World Cup, which it is sounding like they will, then that was our defense. Cherundolo is no better on defense than anyone who played yesterday.

Onyweu will be back with a few months to spare barring complications and we had Hejduk and Bornstein on our backline. 'Dolo is a huge step up from an over the hill 35 year old and a mediocre MLS left back.
Jay Demerit?
Regarding Onyewu, Rob Stone said something last night like he was unlikely for the World Cup and Lalas got that serious frown on his face and nodded. I don't take too much of what they say seriously, but on a matter like this they would certainly know more than is being made public.
And I agree with all of you that Cherundolo is a vast improvement over Hejduk, but I don't think any of the Cherundolo, Spector, Bornstien, DeMerit, Conrad, Hejduk, Pierce and Marshall crowd seriously raises our level. They are all unspectacularly interchangeable in my view of the big picture.
Yes, but you're overlooking one important factor: they suck. Are you nuts? England is a terrible matchup for us. They play a very similar personal style, but with considerably better skill. There's a reason we looked overwhelmed when we played at Wembley.
Theres nothing on any new developments since this article was written a week ago:

Maybe Stone and Lalas know something, but I imagine Ives, Wahl, or a number of other writers would've picked up on it. Sure theres always a chance rehab doesn't go as planned, but Onyweu looks to be good to return. Of course how much game play he can cram into a 2-3 month period prior to the World Cup could be an issue.
