World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

So I guess Conor Casey isn't ENTIRELY worthless.

Edit to add: Wow, crazy finish for Argentina against Peru. I'd imagine Argentine fans are saying the same as my comment above about Martin Palermo right now. Still, if they had that much trouble against Peru, they may have a rough go if it in Uruguay on Wednesday.

It's not a friendly for the Ticos. Have to figure they want to win to avoid the CONMEBOL playoff.

Yeah, it all depends on Honduras. As is I'd rather see Hondo make it as they seem to be a better team and a better representative for the region.

Just saw that England lost to Ukraine? How much of an upset is that?
England had already qualified and, without looking, I'd have to guess they used that match to give competitive match experience to some new guys, or, if not, that in any case the match meant a lot more to Ukraine than it did to England.

England didn't care and had their keeper sent off early for IMO should have been a yellow. So England then outplayed the Ukraine for the next 80 or so minutes, but stupid Ashley Cole headed it into our own net.

That, and it has the EXCELLENT side bonus of basically screwing Croatia.

BTW... noticed on Twitter that @ussoccer mentioned the home crowd in Honduras applauded the Yanks for their accomplishment of qualifying for the World Cup. That is very awesome of them, especially considering how poorly they've been treated as a country over the last couple of months. We'd have never received similar treatment in Mexico or Costa Rica, that's for sure.

Honduras has El Salvador. We've got Costa Rica. Let's give Los Catrachos a hand - they can qualify too if we beat the Ticos and they at least draw with El Salvador. Besides, a win over Costa Rica gives us first place overall and allows us to force them into the South American playoff, which they deserve for bending over at home against Mexico.

Let's go Honduras!

I agree with your Honduras policy, yet disagree with your Croatia policies.

I just noticed that Italy had to qualify. When did they stop giving a spot to the past winner?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Sunil Gulati has apparently been huffing too much paint thinner lately.

Well I've paid 50 bucks to watch a glorified friendly on Wednesday and I couldn't be happier:D

I, too, have a ticket for RFK on Wednesday.

However, I'm not sure the lineup changes too much for the US:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2009/10/monday_kickaround_28.html

Catching up after a long journey back from Honduras.....

*No players will be added to, or dropped from, the USA roster for Wednesday's match against Costa Rica at RFK Stadium (8 p.m., ESPN2, Galavision). Clint Dempsey will remain in London recuperating from the shoulder injury that sidelined him for the Honduras game. Yellow cards are purged after qualifying, so even if any of the eight U.S. players carrying a caution picks up another in the finale, it won't affect their World Cup status. Red cards, however, are binding.

*Despite clinching a berth, Bob Bradley is not taking the Costa Rica match lightly. "We have emphasized to the team that our work is not finished," he said today. "From the beginning, it has been our goal to finish in first place in the group, and with the possibility that winning the group could potentially impact seeding for the World Cup, there is no doubt our mission on Wednesday is to win the game."

Translation: Don't expect many lineup changes.

Monty (UMLFan), are you going to in DC this Wednesday?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I can't see winning the hex having a significant impact on '10 seeding, but a good '10 showing could set up a seed in '14, and we need all the FIFA ranking points we can get to achieve that goal.

Like not turtling against Brasil...

I agree on this. Honduras has played excellent in WCQ this time around and deserve to qualify. If they need a little help from us to qualify I say we give it.
