Stupid by Almunia. There is no way he could control that ball. Certainly a foul, even though there was no way Rooney was going to reach it after his touch.

And an own goal by Diaby! Arsenal have no one to blame but themselves. 2-1 Man U

Here we go, boys..... (for entertainment purposes only)... my EPL picks for Gameweek 4:

West Ham 2, Blackburn 1-- A slight upset, but Blackburn just seems a bit snakebit to me to start the year. The Hammers find a way to nick the win.
Thankfully, Blackburn at home managed a point in a 0-0 draw. Again the Rovers play well but can not seem to finish any chances.

At some point these have to start going in right?

West Ham has taken the most wins and points from Blackburn that they have from any team ever apparently. So the Hammers winning I guess can never be considered an upset.

Separately, Marseilles v Bordeaux tomorrow at 3 ET. Be interesting to see the two CL teams play each other. Maybe get a better feel for how they will do in group stages.

For a nil-nil draw, Sounders vs. Toronto was pretty exciting.

Might catch Galaxy vs. MLS Mexican Cash Grab tonight if I'm very bored.

Anyone watching Chivas-LA?

What an amazing goal by Beckham.

Fantastic goal.

I'm sorry, I can't look at Chivas and pretend like they're a legitimate team. Seriously... how desperate for money was the MLS that they let a Mexican team profit off of us like this? I freaking hate everything about SoCal, but I can always root for the Galaxy when they play their non-Union Mexican equivalents.

Subjectively, it also seems like Chivas leads the league in "attempts to remove an opponent's leg late in a close loss"

Mike Dean joins the pantheon of referees like Steve Bennett, Mike Riley, etc., who can't make a call against ManU at Old Trafford. And the farcical sending off of Wenger at the end was just that.

Are you saying it wasn't a penalty? It definitely was, almunia stuck his arms out and rooney made the most of it. You have no one to blame but your goalie.

Agreed, Almunia swept through with his arms. Rooney was running at an angle away from the goal, and with the pace the ball was moving, there was no way he could control it. Just a boneheaded play.

Everton is in real, real trouble, terrible defending at the back post, Wigan up 1-0.

Speaking of this game. What is the icon on the left of the scoreline on the screen? Ive always wondered who/what that was for. Like a soccer ball with a bird in the middle.

I assumed it was maybe the EPL logo, but i don't see it for every match.

Saha equalizes.

The bird is Barclay's logo: http://group.barclays.com/Home

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I thought early in the offseason villa and everton were going to get overrun by city and spurs but I really like what both have done in the transfer window. If Moyes is able to get both the defender from atletico madrid and bentley (probably less likely with modric's injury) they're really going to be tough. I think this season there are eight teams capable of being in the top four. I would not be shocked at all to see liverpool finish sixth or seventh.

Wigan played really good today too. It should be a good battle between them, sunderland, west ham, fulham, and stoke to get in the top 10.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Lesson of the day: Don't employ a defender who is, by admission of his own name on the back of his jersey, Pants(il).

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Villa on FSC now, Gabby's goal was a great shot, although the defenders laid out the red carpet for him.

We all know MLS isn't EPL but that was an entertaining game...Chivas was taking liberties throughout...good call by the announcer saying that LA had nobody cleaning up at the 18 on corners etc and then as soon as they do get somebody there it turns into the goal.

I thought Beckham played pretty well, one risky tackle that could have gotten him a card...he displayed more hustle than I've seen in most of his Galaxy games.

The stat on LA reducing their goals allowed by 50% year over year was telling.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Villa veer back toward the "not rubbish" end of the spectrum. Nice 2-0 win over Fulhamerica, which must have been a little tired after their trip to Russia.

Now, two weeks until the next fixtures, thanks to an international break. Blah. (Though there's some time to worry about the USA). Next Villa game is the "Brummie Derby" with the Blues in two weeks.
