World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Liverpool levels 2-2 with Birmingham on an atrocious dive by N'gog that earns a penalty.

That was terrible, and every Liverpool supporter should be embarrassed right now. Just a shocking call. Expect that official to be called on the carpet tomorrow.

I heard it was bad, but the question is was the tackle fair, reports were that the tackle was not for the ball but at N'Gog and he jumped. The rules that even if you don't make contact, making an unfair challenge can lead to a penalty.

One minute! I'm impressed! :)

Like I said, I didn't see it. Liverpool supporters are on the board bemoaning the fact that he dove to get a penalty and then embellished it to look like contact.

I don't think the intent was to go at N'Gog. If so, it would have been a terrible decision, N'Gog wasn't going to score from his position. I think it was just mistimed. Usually a mistimed tackle will get the player- but not here. He whiffed on both. N'Gog leaped over the tackle, tucked both legs behind him, and fell. Awful.

Liverpool deserved at least a point after their second half, but that wasn't the way to get it.

They need finishers, direly.

The problem is no one with supreme quality is willing to sit behind Torres who usually plays as the sole striker and only start when Torres is injured.

We could really use Crouch, Keane, etc. But they weren't willing to take the scraps.

Speaking as a Roma fan, I think Aquilani could be your boy. I hated that sale, that was all about the Sensi's cash problems and nothing to do with what was best for the team.

I'd consider conceding two goals at home to Birmingham City a problem as well. I think liverpool would be pretty good with new owners, a new manager, and new players.

And we had no cover for Alonso when he left and Rafa thought we could play fine without Aquiliani or Alonso until the Aquaman got healthy.

That's a big fat oops.

First goal was terrible defending. Second was just an insane strike.

We need new owners, the manager isn't the problem and I doubt we can get someone better unless Hiddink comes in.

New players, definitely.

And I want the Mets training staff fired for making consults for Liverpool.

No Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal v. Bosnia.

Go Bosnia!

One last thing on the Club vs Country debate. Real Madrid hadn't cleared Cristiano Ronaldo to play for THEM, but Portugal tried to bogart Real Madrid and clear him anyways.

If he isn't playing for his club, sounds a bit absurd that the country can try to make the guy play for them.

If he really didn't want to play for Portugal, he could just roll around on the ground and pretend his leg had been cut off; we all know he's very good at it.

Seriously, they're not making him play for them. Presumably he wants to play for them, or else he wouldn't be. It's not like they're holding a gun to his head or something. You seem to believe that Madrid is doing Portugal some sort of a favor by letting him go play for Portugal (see "bogart", "make the guy play for them"), and that's just not the case. Ronaldo is a Portugal player as much as he is a Madrid player, and if they don't want their players to go off and play internationals then they should sign players who don't have that responsibility. Big clubs want to have their cake and eat it too, signing all the best players and then acting aggrieved and even surprised (really? seriously? you're caught off-guard by the fact that a player wants to go help his country qualify for the World Cup?) when those players do things that players of that caliber do.

And you'd better believe Madrid's medical personnel would be clearing him to play if this were a playoff to get Madrid into the Champions League rather than a playoff to get Portugal into the World Cup.

The depths of your ignorance of international football rules has no bounds.

There have been times when injured players have been called up and haven't believed they were fit and tried to NOT be called up and gotten called up anyways.

Your quips don't hide the fact that you think you know the rules but don't. Stop posting on things you don't know about.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I agree with jmh. No one is holding a gun to Ronaldo's head. If he said "no" to Portugal, what would happen? If he says "no" to Real, he doesn't get paid. He went to Portugal anyways. Kinda seems like he cares about playing for his country.

Face it, you're an England fan. England fans only follow England so they can whine about it.

Yes, that's exactly why I'm an England fan. Seriously, that's the best you can come up with? Pathetic insult. :D

In somber news Robert Enke, a German international keeper has died, his car was hit by a train.

They suspect its suicide. :(

His daughter died at age 2 of a heart condition, but he and his wife had just adopted an 8 month old.

BTW, if you folks missed it over the weekend... check out the highlights from Lyon v. Marseilles. It was pretty much the mother of all barn-burners.

I love the camera angles, canal un or whoever did the game, managed to produce. Some of those overhead shots were pretty nice.
