Watch again. I don't think SHE got the yellow. I think the yellow went to the girl who kicked the ball off the face of the girl #15 tripped outside the box.

Nope, the ref missed that one.

In the box score #15 got the only yellow.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

The official write-up of the game reportedly has no mention of the rough play...just mentions the goal and some other things. If anyone has that, it'd make a good read.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Was that all the same girl for New Mexico? How does she not get suspended for the rest of the season? That was like watching a montage in a movie about bullying or something.

Jesus Christ, she's Ogie Oglethorpe.
It's so appalling it's almost hilarious.

From the New Mexico website:
... enjoys camping, torture, destroying civilian populations, and surfing in her spare time ... favorite food is pain ... ... is majoringUniversity Studies with a focus on breaking Geneva conventions.

University of New Mexico head women's soccer coach Kit Vela announced today that junior defender Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended indefinitely for her actions in Thursday's match against BYU in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship in Provo, Utah.

Effective immediately, Lambert is prohibited from participating in all team practices, competition and conditioning activities.

"I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions," said Lambert. "My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration. This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am. I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women's soccer players that were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the BYU women's soccer program and its players."

"Liz is a quality student-athlete, but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship," said Vela.

"Liz's conduct on the field against BYU was completely inappropriate," said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. "There is no way to defend her actions."

The game will be aired again on the MTN network (616 on DirecTV) at 4 pm ET.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

In a related story, Urban Meyer just contacted her about transferring to Florida. Sure what she did was a little rough, but its all just part of the game... The SEC said UNM was overstepping its bounds by suspending her indefinitely...

****, you beat me to it.

I've seen the video just about everywhere. My response is always the same: the ref, ARs, and 4th all missed the boat, there were multiple incidents worthy of caution or ejection, yet only one caution was given.

That pulldown by the ponytail was one of the most egregious offenses I can recall seeing in a sport... by anyone. That was wicked. She should not be reinstated. She has effectively forfeited her right to play college soccer/sports, IMO. :(

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

That Chelsea goal should have been disallowed for offside. Even though Drogba didn't touch it he obviously changed the play and screened the keeper.

Owen and Obertan on for Giggs and Anderson.

ManU has 6 minutes to tie it.

That's really over-the-top. You're comparing it to e.g. swinging a hockey stick at a player's head, or Bertuzzi's sucker punch on Steve Moore? Really? As nasty as the play was, I don't see that level of intent to injure in it.

It's violent conduct, so at minimum a two or three game suspension. I could see maybe running it up to the rest of this season plus a couple in the next, or four or five next if they're done with this season, but I don't think it requires more than that.

Very enjoyable superclasico tonight.

It's always enjoyable to watch Chivas lose.

It was also nice to see Preki have to be restrained from going after Dema Kovalenko after the game.

Liverpool levels 2-2 with Birmingham on an atrocious dive by N'gog that earns a penalty.

That was terrible, and every Liverpool supporter should be embarrassed right now. Just a shocking call. Expect that official to be called on the carpet tomorrow.

2-2 final. Liverpool outplayed Birmingham substantially in the second half, it's just too bad they had to cheat to get a point.

I wonder what TBA's thoughts on the penalty will be? :)
