World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Will they remember that when they go to throw their urine bags during our next visit to beautiful San Pedro Sula? I doubt it.

Jonathon Bornstein just became a Honduran National Hero and Carlos Pavon can sleep easy at night. Very happy to see Honduras qualify in the end, they certainly played well enough to deserve it.

For how their coaching staff acted during that game (and many previous acts from games against them), Costa Rica deserves that.

Meanwhile the US played like crap and we still tieed. I don't understand this team most of the time.

The USA outplayed the Ticos the last 20 or so minutes.

I think they will. Reports were they were applauding the US team after the game when the US qualified.

Early word on Gooch is torn patella, out for about four months.

Ouch. Not like Milan was ever going to give him a fair shot to crack the lineup anyway. But with him and DeMerit both hurting, center back looks a bit less sturdy for the time being. If we wind up having to include Danny Califf on the WC squad I'm going to be awfully nervous. Still, I mean, this is the first time we've ever finished alone with the most points in the Hex (won it last time but tied with Mexico on points and won on GD). Cool to see, even if it needed a late goal to make it happen.

Glad to see Argentina through, though I think they'll continue to be out of their depth with Maradona at the helm. It'd be a less entertaining World Cup to watch if guys like Messi and Tevez and Aguero and Higuain missed out.

I agree with that. I'd hate to see Danny Califf out there. Jimmy Conrad is another option but still.

Mixed feelings about the game. Great atmosphere, even with the temperature and the weather. The Costa Rican fans were fairly slimey with the profanity and the taunting and the Costa Rican players and their fake injuries were pathetic, so I'm quite happy to see them in the playoffs. Great heart, but for god's sake, we need to finish those chances. The fact that we needed a 95th minute equalizer was crazy after missing 4 or 5 clear chances with nobody to beat but the keeper.

Ah well, at least Mexico didn't win the group.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Yeah, I'm still pumped up from that finish. Absolutely electric atmosphere, all things considered.

If we hadn't come back to tie, I sure wouldn't be feeling that way.

Indeed, my eyes got a little damp in the 9th minute I'll admit.

We also need more Torres. He brought something to the attack that Feilhaber just didn't provide. He settled the ball and switched the point of attack with ease.

Also, one other positive is the realization that Connor Casey isn't the second coming of Brian McBride. Better now than around June 14, 2010 or so.

I find that disgusting as well, just man up and play like a professional.

This always surprises me when I see you guys making these kinds of statements. Every Tico I've ever met in my life has been extraordinarily friendly. Granted, meeting Ticos because your hometown has a sister city in Heredia is a lot different than meeting Ticos at a soccer match...

Agreed. But from everything I've seen, that's more of a symptom of every single Latin American country wishing they were Mexico (or Argentina, as the case may be for the South Americans). As egregious as the Ticos were with their diving, I can't say that it is unique in any way.

It seems like the only national teams in CONCACAF with any balls are the US and Canada. Maybe some of the Caribbean nations, too, but they matter so little that its hard to see enough of them to tell.

With the epic suck going on up there, maybe they should. It's kind of funny that the city of Genoa has more teams in the top 6 than Milan.

Friggin Northern. The best team from outside Northern is Roma, which is sad since they're in 8th. I suppose I could be persuaded to count Fiorentina as being outside of that hellhole.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Costa Ricans are very friendly, but as fans, not so much. Given the nice reception we had in Honduras, I'm glad to have helped them into the last guaranteed spot.

It was nice to see the Tico coaching staff get booted. I'm not sure what they were arguing about, all I could see from the other side of the field was the commotion - but I'll thank them for the extra minute of stoppage time. Worked out well for us.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

It seems odd, but I am more excited for Honduras than I am for finishing 1st in CONCACAF.
