World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

That coaching just swept you guys recently. We're happy with him. Seem to recall a lot of displeasure from your fan base with your coach. Or is that no longer the reason fans are staying away in droves? :p

Sorry, but in my opinion, the best players available were not chosen and that's what you get. I'm sure the coach did the best with what he had but he did not have the best players available.

Well, two of the best eligible players this country has defensively would have been chosen, but their NHL teams didn't release them (Trouba and Jones). Even the most optimistic people I've listened to at NHL.com, TSN, Pipeline Show, USoH, etc... said we weren't a favorite to finish Top 3. We had an outside chance if we got outstanding goaltending, but we didn't. Gilles wasn't horrible, but he wasn't outstanding.

Special teams were the difference in the Canada and Russia games. Team didn't play terrible. Just had a tough draw after the Canada loss.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Given that it was a team without much returning experience, it actually might have helped the team to have some early adversity. Maybe a couple of tough games right off the bat, or a come from behind win. Those first three wins were a breeze. When you throw a team together, sometimes it takes a little time to learn how to grind out a win in those games where everything isn't going your way, the power play isn't clicking, or you trail by a goal. I don't think this team ever learned how to do that.

Completely agree with this.

Well, the good news is Lucia can now go back to what he does best, under-develop talent.;)

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Well I just watched the game off DVR, refs didn't do us many favors, it's really too bad that clearing attempt went over the boards give Russia another 5 on 3 that got them them GWG. that was a killer. Oh well, this team was good, not great and probably didn't have much of a chance at a medal, too ad with the tough draw, made it hard to get to the semifinals for a better shot at a medal.

So, in Russia when you score the ENG at the end of the game it's customary to skate by the bench of the opposing team and taunt them?

It's customary to be a Russian dbag whenever they get the chance in this tournament. Their dooshbaggery has been well documented in the past decade in this tournament.

It is dissappointing that Poile who is GM for the Olympic team would not release Jones who was good last year in the WJC. However, even looking at eligible college players, based on NCAA scoring and current level of play, I think Bayreuther should have been selected. The way the players are selected is too political. Another player that is having an exceptional start is Sweetman at SLU.

It is customary for USA players to high stick a Russian skating by their bench also!

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

I don't think that the russian player was purposefully showing up the americans, but it came out that way. I believe there was a lot of chirping between the teams, as I noticed a russian player giving the shut your trap sign to the americans after the 5th goal.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

At the end of the day, this team just didn't have the talent or unreal goaltending to win this tourney. I think they did underachieve and should've at least made it to the semis tho.

Next years team I think will be a lot more dynamic and have a boatload more talent with a solid group of returners. Demko will have to play well assuming hes the incumbent but it wont come down to whether or not he can carry them on his back. The U18 and U17 teams have loads of talent to help out an already strong returning group.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

I thought Eichel was the best player for the US team which is saying a lot for a 17 year old.

Wrong. After scoring, Buchnevich clearly skated in front of the US bench to "purposely" taunt. As he skated to the end of the USA bench, Ryan Hartman put his stick out and hit him in his babyface for the payback. The real kicker though happened shortly afterward when the old commie Russian team trainer Alexander Rezepov (ARTICLE) decided to ratchet things up a bit to a new high in IIHF class by showing the USA bench his personal best technique of how to suck ****. :D Classy frozen police state.
