I've only seen the last two games as I was out of town for the first three, but this Team USA has not impressed.

Lots of individual offensive efforts that are stymied and many of the goals are ugly or fluky. Not playing particularly well as units.

Hopefully they can get one here.

The officiating in this game has been horrific. After I don't know how many ticky tack stick infraction calls, they let that blatant check from behind on Kerdiles go???

Much better the first three games, though I can't say I completely agree with your take in general. They have played two very good teams the last two games that have played very strong defensively. The US returned few players for this tourney. We were not favored to do much. Some high-end US players not released from NHL clubs who could have made a big difference (especially defensively).

Checking From Behind is not a penalty in the IIHF as it is in college. Any other time you may have seen it was used as a boarding call.

None of that changes what's happening on the ice and to say they've been "very strong defensively" is flat out wrong.

D zone coverage has been responsible for most of the goals I've seen that have happened at even strength.

And a player trying to skate it in on the pp when the Russians are lining up at the bl along with that horrible angle shot on the pp that ends up out of the zone illustrates my point about individual play.
