As a (Steinbrenners pending) Spurs fan

If this is really your stance, you should do yourself a favor and just stop rooting for them now - because if your support is predicated on a certain person or persons not owning the team, you're a pretty fairweather fan.

From what I've seen, it's not all that much more superficial than the reasons used by most American soccer fans to root for European teams.

Maybe if they pull the trigger on the Seinfeld reunion, the Steinbrenners can re-hire George Costanza and send him to work for Spurs. :D

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

MLS All Star reserves announced today. Notable are the two Commissioner's picks, the ancient Jaime Moreno, and Brian Ching - with his robust strike rate of 3 goals in 9 games.

What a joke.

What's the problem? They're guys #23 and #24 on the roster.

They're still 2 silly choices, while 2 much more deserving players are left at home.

Or, if you take the position that commissioner's picks don't have to be deserving, and should instead drive hype and take other factors into account, why not go for it and pick Henry?

Won't Henry be on a red card by then for fighting with Keane from Celtic on the 22nd? :D

Or that the commissioner is taking the long view and wants to honor two veterans with long service to their teams and the league. I don't know about Ching, but this is likely Jaime's last season.

Whether they 'deserve' it or not would depend on the criteria, no?

I mean, the team can do a complete change of personnel on the field at half time and still leave these two on the bench.

Yes, whether they deserve it depends on the criteria. Garber seems to be using it to honor veterans, like you said.
I personally think that particular criteria is a load of trash, but the picks are his prerogative.

I just picked them to follow last year, I had always followed Serie A and Roma, but it is a lot easier to follow the EPL. So, I started watching, and liked what Spurs had going on.

Anyways, I don't think that sale would happen, so it's a moot point of whether I would follow them anymore or not.

But Sebastian Le Toux made it...he is having a great year...has more energy than anybody on the field and with 7G 7A in 14 games he deserves to be there.

Big fan favorite in Philly. He never stops so the fans love him.

One negative on the Sons of Ben - the Union supporters...
the "You suck, ***** hole" cheer everytime the other goalie kicks a goal kick is neither funny nor creative. I have no problem with off-color soccer songs and chants...but use some creativity.

That's interesting. What makes Serie A easier to follow for you? I would think it would be tougher, with the language barrier and all.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Wow. Yes he did. I read that twice to make sure I was getting it right, and still managed to misread it.:o
It's cool, you were just proving your point that there's a language barrier among English speakers too.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Champions League today! Second Leg of the Second Qualifying Round. Home team listed first (w/ score from first leg listed):

Koper (SVN) 1 - Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) 5
Rudar Pljevlja (MNE) 0 - Litex Lovech (BUL) 1
Dinamo Tirana (ALB) 1 - Sheriff Tiraspol (MDA) 3
Renova (MCD) 0 - Omonia (CYP) 3
HB Torshavn (FRO) 0 - Red Bull Salzburg (AUT) 5
The New Saints (WAL) 0 - Bohemians (IRE) 1

No one too exciting has entered yet- Zagreb and Red Bull are probably the biggest names. The second day tomorrow has Sparta Prague involved. Winners of these matches go on to the Third Qualifying Round, to cut the winners in half (plus adds Basel, Copenhagen and Anderlecht).
