Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

That's worth about $5M? No one, I'll admit. There has to be a creative way to do it, though.

They can pay the transfer fee with an up front amount, then base the rest on appearances and league position finish.

Yeah. Maybe.

Unrelatedly, West Ham signs Piquionne from Lyon. With him and Barrera, are they the second highest spenders thus far besides Al-Citeh? Not that that says much, it has been incredibly quiet in the EPL.

It makes more sense than suggesting something that will not happen. The player has to accept the move to LA and no player for Everton will for a player swap.

They can also throw in a friendly like ManUtd did in the transfer for Chicarito.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I'ts unlikely Blackburn will be spending much if they are mid-takeover.

But it sounds like they are financially stable again as far as wages, so they shouldn't be offloading people either.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I don't know, that would be a pretty rough deal for whatever Everton guy was swapped. Forced to pack up and move to LA.
Oh no, I have to live in sunny southern California instead of Liverpool? That sounds awful.

(Yes, I get that nobody on Everton would agree to the swap, but come on, moving to LA is the BEST thing about it.)

That's the joke (even though I personally think LA sucks)

It does suck, but it's still a heck of a lot nicer than Liverpool.

(Apparently I did not get the joke the first time though. :o)

That can't be right. Tottenham hasn't bought anyone and they are marked down for 9. I forgot about Yossi to Chelsea. Javier Hernandez was that expensive?

No, Spurs bought Sandro.

He hasn't joined the team yet, but it's an official deal.

Hernandez signed for 8 million, United also bought Smalling from Fulham for 10m.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I am so embarrassed. :o :o

I thought this Al-Citeh you were all referring to was that team in the UAE that signed Fabio Cannavaro. :o

In my embarrassment, I admit that nickname is pretty funny.

One comment on Donovon. A lot of you have given a lot of good reasons for MLS to keep a hold of him, but the league's reputation is also a little at stake. If the league gets a reputation as an ownership group that is willing to hold American players back from the European dream, that could be a bad thing.

If Milner goes from Villa to ManCity they will be at the top of my most hated list.

What on earth would they need Milner for when they're already got like seventeen other guys who can play wide midfield?

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/204033-milner-set-for-man-city-switch-in-next-10-days

I can't say why they want him, perhaps because it hurts Villa more than it helps ManCity. I checked with someone who has reliable info and this is not just a rumor

Milner moves into the middle a fair amount for villa, maybe they see him there

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Kind of a dumb play in the box to grab him.

Probably better to just let him take a try on goal in the run of play.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I'm liking what I'm seeing from Celtic up front tonight. Perfect control by the new signing Ledley to earn that penalty and a perfect finish from Samaras. Zaluska had a nice save early in the second half. Hopefully tonight starts the long road to erase the pitiful Mowbray reign from my memory for good!

I want no part of signing James Milner. I think he's vastly overvalued, and it's not worth the whining from Martin O'Neill that would come if we do sign him.
