Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

1. RIT
2. Gustavus
3. Plattsburgh
4. Middlebury
5. Amherst
6. Elmira
7. Wis-RF
8. Wis-Superior
9. Neumann
10. Trinity

RIT was the best team I saw play last season and I think they'll be stronger this season. GA was amazing and will be amazing again whis season. Plattsburgh and Midd are always strong and have very talented goaltenders. I think Amherst lost too many impact players - two outstanding forwards, a very talented D and then Elek. While Hu is good I believe she lacks stamina if she takes lots of shots. Don't forget Amherst lost to Midd in the NESCAC Championship game with Hu in net. Elmira lost their All-America goaltender. The two Wisconsin teams could do even better this season. Neumann is poised for some serious battle and Trinity should hang in there strong. Look for Bowdoin to pull some upsets.

I like your poll, but would flip flop RIT and Elmira. RIT lost too much with graduation plus transfer. They have alot of freshman defense, but nobody in the Owczarczak level. I think there is potential for freshman gaffs in tough games out of their young D. While Elmira certainly lost good talent, they have a very good coach who will adjust game after game, if he sees a weakness. I think we will see them win the big games in the conference like last year.

Fair enough. I forgot about the Pioneers, but Utica could be dangerous and break into the top 10 too. Clausen knows how to win. The Middlebury Tournament should shake things out pretty well early on.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I'm just curious why everyone is givin St Thomas so much love?

They return a lot of their team outside of Jackie Carroll. Plus, They always seem just to be a little bit short when it comes to Gustavus Adolphus usually giving them one of their best games every year.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Ok so I added all of them up to determine our "preseason" poll. I knew a few teams are playing this weekend...so after this weekend we'll start voting again for our next poll. That poll will close on Tuesday.

1) Amherst (4) 114
2) Gustavus (5) 106
3) RIT (2) 94
4) Elmira (2) 87
5) Plattsburgh 78
6) Middlebury 66
7) River Falls 63
8) Superior 29
9) Manhattanville 20
10) St. Thomas 19

Adrian 12, Neumann 10 ,Norwich 9, Adrian 8, Trinity 3

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

while the teams frequently mentioned deserve heaps of respect, may we put a bit of a spin on the topic and mention some of the top programs based on things like 'heart' and sportsmanship ? the following come to mind:

1. Plymouth State - won one game last year, went out and got a talented & determined head coach who is hell bent on creating a quality experience for the student/athletes there.

2. Chatham - they play an extremely difficult schedule, as we speak they list a roster of 13 ( frosh only will comprise the remaining spots ) yet they always compete with a sense of dignity.

3. St. Michaels - another squad that faces long odds on a continual basis, they host a tournament that includes all 3 teams mentioned here. the more I think about that, the more important that tourney becomes.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Just got word that the first D-III women's poll will be released on Monday November 2nd.

"They return a lot of their team outside of Jackie Carroll. Plus, They always seem just to be a little bit short when it comes to Gustavus Adolphus usually giving them one of their best games every year."

UST returns a very good goalie, most D from last year, but someone needs to fill Carroll's skates, if possible. If anyone has a "sophomore slump" they could finish 3rd or 4th. How? They didn't add any real scoring power. Not a lot of freshmen from big time programs to step in. But...you never know, they had a kid from SD do pretty well for them last year as a frosh.

Big two games tonight and spooky Halloween afternoon.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Ok i'll be the first brave one :)

1. Elmira
2. RIT
3. Amherst
4. River Falls
5. Plattsburgh
6. Adrian
7. Gustavus
8. Superior
9. Middlebury
10. Neumann :D

Looks like you were right on Neumann, but looks like Adrian will drop out of top 10 for the time being.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I do think that everyone is forgetting about Adrian in all this.

They beat all the big dogs in the west last season...Superior, Stevens Point, Gustavus, swept River Falls.

They are in there third year as a team and I really think they are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

I feel the need to retract this statement for the time being :)

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I just saw the Lake Forest / St. Mary's game. IMHO, Lake Forest will win many games this season. They have a highly skilled team with many new recruits adding some quickness to their play. Their PP is very formidable and they use a pressing style of forecheck to create many opportunities.

Carissa Zaban is a great coach and I really expect them to be ranked in the top ten, before too long.

didn't think I should keep Adrian in, don't see any reason to jump UWSP or St Thomas in there....so I'll jump on the Mville bandwagon for a week!

Thought about jumping them over Superior but we'll leave it as is for now until Neumann plays RIT.

I can't wait for everyone to get those first few games out of the way. It should be quite interesting!

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

This weekend could have a real impact on polls:

River Falls at St. Thomas (Friday only)
Lake Forest at Superior (Friday & Saturday)
RIT at Neumann (Friday & Saturday)

Feel free to make predictions.
