Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2013-14

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2013-14

One voter hangs tight for Minnesota - hard to quit cold turkey.

Good for that one voter.

One thing I like about pro sports over college sports, the acknowledgement that a team winning one game doesn't mean that team's the better team.

College BB polls and college hockey polls during the regular season are more forgiving as far as the #1 ranked team is concerned. But its gotten to the point where voters somehow feel they have to put the the winner of the final tourney at #1 in the polls. But why don't they feel they have to put Mercyhurst into the Top 4? It's kind of a double standard of sorts. And like Eeyore said in his post, its lazy.

But don't get me wrong, I am not saying Clarkson didn't deserve the Title or to be called National Champs, they definitely earned the title and deserve to be called Natl Champs. But did they earn and deserve the #1 ranking in the final poll? I don't think I am qualified to say one way or the other, but I'm pleased that someone who is gave their vote to the team they felt deserved it. Wouldn't surprise me if that one voter wasn't the only one who felt that way, either.

Isn't the poll supposed to be a week to week poll? Clarkson's final week of play outranks that of Minnesota. If it was a poll for the whole season then yeah Minnesota should be 1, there's no question there.

But again if it was a poll based on everything that happened up to that point, then the rankings wouldn't have jumped around as much as they did. Namely North Dakota in particular. They wouldn't have just dropped off the rankings if it was based on the whole season

I'm not sure what polls you were watching. North Dakota didn't just drop off the rankings when they started losing. They slid down pretty slowly. The polls are very clearly not based on just the most recent week, and it would be stupid if they were.

I'm also a cbb fan, and NONE of the cbb polls rank teams solely on how they performed during just the previous week. #1 rated teams sometimes lose and retain their #1 rating.

Granted this doesn't happen very often when the #2 ranked team beats the #1 ranked team, and I was not trying to say that UMn should have retained a #1 ranking, all I said was that I was pleased that at least one voter had them as their #1 team. And honestly, my guess is that more than 1 voter felt that the Gophers still deserved the #1 spot in the poll but voted Clarkson #1 simply because they were not as brave as that one voter who put UMn at #1. But I am totally ok with a majority having Clarkson as the #1 team but also do not feel its disrespectful of any of the voters to have put UMn #1 and mean no disrespect towards Clarkson for saying I'm pleased that at least one voter kept UMn as their #1 team.

Clarkson proved they were better on Sunday, March 23, at 3pm at a neutral site game in Hamden, Connecticut. However, the crowd was probably 3/4 Clarkson and the referees were ones that they were familiar with on Friday, so they had some small advantages. They earned the win and they at least earned the right to be considered as the top team in the country. Personally, I'm surprised that only one voter voted for Minnesota because they're one heck of a team and in my opinion they deserve all the accolades that had been bestowed upon them all season.

I don't understand why it seems some people have a chip based on one voter's opinion or others have a chip because the other voters changed their vote as a result of one game. I think we should all be happy for the ladies on both teams and the fact that they all went out there and played one heck of a game that was entertaining for 60 minutes and someone had to come up on the winning and losing ends.

It really is meaningless to speculate on who is placed where in a final poll other than the fact that Clarkson is the national champion and that the national championship game was, as FireKnight states, "one heck of a game".

2013/2014 final poll

1) Clarkson

2) Everyone else

Wow, what a nice way to look at things.

How about this then,

2000-2013 - 1) WCHA

2) Everyone else.

Or this?

2014 Patty Kaz final vote

1) Rattray

2) everyone else

Yeah, who cares who finishes 2nd, no different than finishing last.

Maybe that is why all the polls I see include only the #1 team.

Because no one should care who comes in 2nd?!

As far as the amount of white space you used...That is impressive.
