Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Brooky done his victory dance yet ?. :)

Brooky is well aware that you just don't do victory dances based on some poll.

(but seeing him two-step whenever the Gophs beat the Badgers is always a special treat!) ;)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I've been dancing since one Sunday in March 2012...getting a little winded. ;)

LA Kings definition would be a team that has been around for a while, made the final only once before, quite a while ago, not done much since, and go on a run late in the season to finally win the big one.....

So let's start with a list of teams that have been to the final once only and lost. List is not that long:

SLU, Brown, Cornell, Mercyhurst and BU.......

So who would you tag with the LA moniker.....I'd say Brown or SLU, as those are the only two teams in that list that have not been to a title game for a while.

Everyone admits LA did have some talent, but underachieved. So who do you give the nod in that department, SLU or Brown. Hard call to make. SLU is more likely to go on a run and win, but Brown has probably underachieved the most in recent years.

So my verdict is Brown is the D1 version of the LA Kings. ;)

Good insight... nice choice.

Brown had a pretty hot goalie last year. :p
More seriously, If goal tending is a factor, don't count out Clarkson. IMHO they have the best goaler in the ECAC right now. Quinny's main tender is a senior, and she has proven in the past that when she gets hot, that team could go on a run.

Yes, I think Howe is a game changer.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Been reading the SiouxSports.com forum, Women's Hockey 2012-2013 Thread. The #5 team isn't getting much love from the locals. Same for the women's game in general. Disappointing.

I don't post there because too many posters get on my nerves.

They just whine too much about stupid things. This is across all sports, not just hockey. Saddens me to say that about fellow UND alumni and fans.
Shame, really.

That women's hockey board usually picks up more once the season starts, but it's pretty dull in the off season.

I think that BC will win the title this year. they didnt loose a lot of talent at graduation, they have skarupa, trivigno, bender, johnson. they have strong leading senoiors such as walsh, motherwell, bolden and boyles. ther defense and offense will rank in the top ten and they have megan miller who is a strong goaltender as well as boyles is.

Normally I'm very anti-"Rah Rah" but to be honest, this could very well be the year. Field and Carpenter are electric and if any of these incoming freshmen emerge as immediate impact players like Stack/Thunstrom/Field/Carpenter were as freshmen, there is absolutely the talent for BC to make a huge leap. There's talent up and down the lines and experience in net.

Should be an exciting year on the Heights for sure.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I think that BC biggest challenged will be minnesota for sure. wisconsin will not be as good as they were they lost so much talent as did minnesota. BU will will be competive but not as much as last year,NU lost ther goalie as did providence. UMD lost there goalie and there top scorer in haley irwin so its claer for BC to win it all.

Might be a few others in contention. :)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Who else do you think will be in contention for the the title
I think it's a mistake to imply Wisconsin will not contend. North Dakota, Clarkson, Cornell, Mercyhurst, Harvard, St. Lawrence are some who I pretty much expect to challenge in their own conference and post season. I would pick BC as the pre-season favorite in HE. I just never anticipate any favorites as a given or a season without unexpected contenders.

I think their may be a few sleepers.

i disagree with about some of those teams a lot of them lost many of there talents , dos north daokta have a goalie?can havards youth help them out? can cornell replace rebecca johnstons scoring?
BC has the offense they will probablu have the best defense in the country and have two solid goaltenders. who do you see the final frozen four game as

I think I'll watch a few games before I predict the FF or select BC as the obvious 2013 NCAA champion. ;)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I wouldn't go so far as to call BC as the 'favorite,' but the talent is certainly there for them to finally be on even footing with the western teams instead of being a 'make the playoffs and hope to get lucky' team that we've been in the past.

We'll learn a hell of a lot early as BC opens with 3 against BU, 2 against UNH (despite the lack of talent they are always a thorn in our sides), and what will be most telling, 2 against UMD.

Will Cornell be able to replace Rebecca Johnston? Probably not. She is one of those rare players that just cannot be replaced. The graduation of White and Karpenko at forward, Young at defense and Mazzotta in net will also undoubtedly be felt. With that said, Cornell is returning two 50+ point getters from last season and a number of other offensively gifted players that should have more opportunity to shine. In addition, the freshman class has some offensive talent of its own. As such, I don't foresee Cornell's offense struggling significantly this season. Though, that will largely be determined by how well and how quickly the team gels.

Defensively, Cornell remains largely intact with two All-American's in Rougeau and Fortino. Gagliardi and Cudmore are very strong in their own right having spent time at their respective country's nation team camps. Cudmore is a member of Canada's u-22 team. The incoming frosh should further bolster Cornell’s blue line. Poudrier has played with Canada's senior, U-22 and U-18 national teams. Richardson was on Canada's U-18 team. Murray was in the running for the Canadian U-18 team but was battling an injury during the selection camp.

Slebodnick has seen a fair amount of ice time (against some top teams I might add) during her first two season at Cornell and was selected to play for the U.S. U-22 team this summer. She is the heir apparent for Cornell's starting goaltender duties. I like what I've heard about Pippy and Moak, and I look forward to seeing them challenge for more ice time this season.

All of this to say, yes, I believe Cornell should be included in the discussion of contenders. It’s way too early for me to speculate on a favorite.

I do have very little doubt that BC should also, a long with a number of other teams, be very good.

Not a lot of change in this week's poll. Wisconsin is punished a bit for the tie in Mankato, and Mercyhurst passes Northeastern.
