Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

talk about the pot calling the kettle black

OK, I see now, you saw them play 3 or 4 times, yet you said something stupid, that would make you ....

congrats, you are the first on my ignore list

If you ignore TTT, you will be creating a very large hole in your cultural tolerance lesson! He's passionate about his birds, and at times a bit crass, but all in all, a good fan of women's hockey. It is sometimes helpful to take him with a grain of salt, or a pile maybe:rolleyes:;)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Wisconsin figures to be better defensively and UND better offensively. The two finished tied in the standings, UND lost more, but likely has the better recruiting class w/o Pankowski playing this year. Most of what we think in September winds up being wrong anyway.

Re: WCHA poll

Re: WCHA poll

Given all that's been said on this thread, plus the national poll, it's a bit surprising to see Wisconsin above North Dakota in the WCHA-only poll: http://www.uscho.com/2013/09/19/def...nnesota-picked-to-win-wcha-womens-conference/.

WCHA is the only poll to have the top three in a different order from the national poll. Do the coaches there know something we don't, or do they just have a race memory of Wisconsin being unbeatable?

WI Coaching gets the edge.....

TTT vs pokechecker :D this is going to be an exciting "attempted" matchup

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Two predictions:

A WCHA team wins it once again this year
UND wins it all before any team outside the WCHA wins it all

what I want to know is who picked WI to finish first? It certainly is conceivable, but IMO, not very likely

apparently the ignore list doesn't work :(
what can I say, I have a low tolerance for people who post just to get a reaction out of people
it's one thing to post an opinion and back it up with WHY you feel that way, it's another altogether to pull thoughts out of your rear end

What was that thing you said about the marijuana calling the kettle corn crunchy or something?

Brad Frost. Coaches don't vote for their own teams, so because Minnesota got seven first-place votes, his vote is the only one unaccounted for. He likely figures that Wisconsin is more of a known quantity than North Dakota given what each team graduated.

So Frost would have been the one who picked BC first in the USA Hockey poll? Or is that not voted on by coaches?

National polls are different -- coaches voting in the poll are allowed to vote for their own teams, which is why a team can be a unanimous #1 even if the coach is part of the poll. I have no idea whether or not Frost is included in the voters for the USA Hockey poll. Usually voters come from coaches, admin, or media.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I think you could make a pretty good argument that Minny's dominance is relevant to the position of the other WCHA teams. Where would UW, UDN, and UMD or for that matter OSU be if they didn't have 4 losses to Minny right now. That is part of the challenge every year for the WCHA. By playing each team 4 times in a season the teams that fall short get beat up in the polls. I think the many people listakenly think Wisco and UND are a lot weaker than they really are right now because their records show 4 losses to Minny.
I mentioned this in another thread, but if you remove games against Minnesota and Wisconsin, North Dakota's RPI goes *DOWN.* So, no, those games actually made North Dakota look better than they would have otherwise.

It would be a pretty poor ranking system (and I realize that's what RPI is) that wouldn't improve the rating of a team that went .500 in five games against a top-four team like Wisconsin.
