Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Was not able to attend, but I saw the last 2 periods. The second period shots were 15 14 after they were 20 2 in the first. Shots were 16-4 and the third. At least they bounced back in the third. They allowed multiple breakaways. Not good. They were getting destroyed on face-offs for through the first two periods but in the third it evened out. Hall was only 3 & 9, back to her typical sucking in the first game on Face-offs. Sappy was only 2&9. I expect to see a full three period effort today. Only one more game to gel before elimination games.
 
Glad I got to see the Olympians and other seniors one more time if we don't score NCAA tix.

Thought it was cool that the Hall/Gorb/Eden line got the start or is that the usual first line? I thought it was Shappy and Simms etc. Anyway... showed recognition to the women who remained here and completed the WCHA reg season title.

Not liking Edwards at D - thought they were putting her back to forward but she did fine albeit against easy competition.

Yeah BSU showed some pushback in the second but that's hockey. Gotta expect that it's hard to keep the foot on the pedal against inferior competition. Closed it out in the 3rd. The second period doesn't concern me but the shot total that BSU ended up with is higher than I would have expected going in.

Was starting to wonder if there'd be any mention at all of the Olympians and then they brought them out postgame and gave them their due.

We'll be at the men's hoops game on Wednesday and it wouldn't surprise me if they brought them out there also.
 
Perhaps this is why the third period seemed a bit disjointed (although still spirited): "The big thing is trying to get everybody on the same page and play them together, pushing in the same direction. For most of the game it was pretty good. I mixed up the lines a little bit in the 3rd period to give us more balanced lines and concentrate. I thought our work ethic in the 3rd was pretty good and it showed within the game." [Coach Johnson]

I thought we would see her back at forward also. When I saw Zilisch getting time I thought maybe it was because of the opponent. Being a senior this weekend would be a good opportunity to get her some good ice time. From here on out, things are going to be much tougher and I would expect Edwards will be back at forward. Jones has played well and I don't see a reason to bump her out of the regular rotation.
 
I'm sure it was tough for Eden to be left out of the Olympics - can't imagine the disappointment and hopefully she gets her chance in 2030.

That said, I think she leveled up in the past month. I remember watching her in the fall and knowing that she was in the running for an Olympic spot and not really thinking she jumped off the ice as someone who should.

She played really well in the past month and led this team to the conference championship. Last night I could see a real change in her demeanor, confidence and play. She stood out.

Happy to see that and she could be a real key for our run in these next few weeks.
 
Speaking of Sapovalivova - almost a hat trick. Her oops goal in the first and then that sick bar down and then almost a second bar down. Was hoping she'd get it.

Imagine what she's gonna be as an upperclassman.

Saw a lot of shooting when there were better passes available. Gorbie seems to have blinders on a lot and would love to see her develop better ice vision. Several times when she took it to the net or shot, there was a clear lane for a pass to a teammate who would have had a better opportunity.

She wasn't alone last night. Lots of individual play in the offensive zone. One of my favorite aspects of the women's game is the fantastic tic tac toe passing. Hope to see them get back to more of that today.

Sapo was/is one of the Olympians. They didn't bring here out. They should have.

I meant the Gold medal winning Olympians even if I didn't type it as such.

What would Sapovalivova have done out there? Parade around to the "USA" chants?

I'm a big fan of her game and she's one of my favorite players now to watch but like I said, they acknowledged her Olympic participation prior to them leaving.

No.. they shouldn’t have.
IT WAS TO HONOR THE GOLD MEDAL WINNING USA TEAM … PERIOD.
Plenty of selfish play on full display… not many “See the ice” and it’s so blatantly obvious .
They’re could have been 14 goals if the puck was moved as it should have been.

I didn't hear the announcement for what the challenge was for. Did the ref say 'high stick'? If so, maybe the experimental change was for the regular season, and the experiment is over.

I feel for the Bemidji goalie in a big way. Just that close to extending her team's season and her career one more day. She dropped to all-fours when the puck went in, and stayed there for a good while, clearly upset. Looking at her stats, if today wasn't "the game of her life", it was one of two (a 50 save 2-1 loss at Ohio State in October.)

Just found a post by Kendrick S. stating high stick play was allowed regular season, but not in fact allowed during WCHA playoff hockey. That seems dumb.
 
Didn't get to see or hear today's game, as I was at our local ski area, wearing a Willy Wonka costume, and going down the tubing hill on an inflatable mattress (charity "bedracing" event).

Biggest takeaway is at least the Olympians and the rest of the team get a leisurely Sunday for some rest. Whoever we play Thursday (UMD, MSU, or SCSU) has to play tomorrow and will be coming off a three game weekend.
 
Best part of the whole day yesterday was after the game. After the Bemidji players left the ice, Isa Goettl remained out there patiently waiting while the Badgers were celebrating. Then Harvey and Edwards skated over so she could get a picture with them. After the picture was taken she jumped with her arms raised high to celebrate the picture. Just an awesome sight. (Edwards did bend down a bit for the picture.) She is really an exciting and fun player to watch.
