Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Kind of sucks we didn't score on the five on three and we allowed a goal right after that, but that play was a heck of a shot. I really thought KK had the play covered.

I really think Ava's playing even better than last year.

Heck of a way to close out the first half. Having Edwards play forward was really a difference maker.

I've got to try and get to a game to see KK Harvey play in person. She's a generational talent on the blue line and it's unlikely we'll be lucky enough to see another one.
(I hate typing this, but...)

If you mean at LaBahn in Madison, there are really very few chances left to do so.

The next home series is Jan 24 and 25, and then because of the Olympics, that may well be it until the WCHA first round playoffs Feb 27-28. And then a first-round NCAA tournament game. And that's it.

Congrats on the sweep, what brutal physical games but did anyone expect it to be otherwise?
On the plus side I was able to converse with MJ before Friday's game, he was very cordial.
We touched on the difference of Edwards playing D for USA and F for Wisconsin and how our rematch game will look quite different with so many gone from our rosters.

Too bad for Eden if true - she's such a great addition (sparkplug) to any team -- - Would be cool to switch 16 and 8 - get last year's kid's table back together!

Glad to see Edwards back at forward where she belongs.

Was hoping Johnson would move her back when the games really mattered and I'd assume that's a preview of how things will be post Olympics.

She'd be the last one I'd take off the roster. Her intangibles are off the chart, and she can score a bit as well.

Enright Hall Scannell
Gorbotenko Pieckenhagen Eden
McCarthy Picard Halverson
Zillisch Vassuer

I like the line #2 a lot, Gorbo and Pie play a super heavy style and Eden can finish. That line will wear you out.

I wonder if last weekend's switch of Edwards to F carries over to the next Rivalry Series game? That would make it harder for Eden to make the cut. I also would think you won't see five lines on the line chart like the first two games. I believe they need to cut down to 20 skaters.

As much as anything else this first half of the season, Edwards playing D was in response to various other D players being out with injuries. If the others stay healthy, she can play on the front line, But if people are injured...

It had absolutely nothing to do with injuries…. It was a direct result of USA Hockey putting this stupid idea in her head… Wisconsin bowed to it until it was blatantly obvious she can’t play there against good teams and help the cause.

I believe MJ strongly implied it was not his desire for her to play D in one of the pressers awhile back.
I went through the line charts posted on the team twitter page, and 'matched' them up against the D-corps' injuries.

20 games played in total; two for which there was no chart posted (10/3 vs Maine, 11/29 vs Mercyhurst); five games when Laila was out injured (10/12 through 10/26).

That leaves 13 games. Of those 13, there five when one or more of the "other" top six D players were out; Laila played D in all five of them. For the other eight games when all six other D players were dressed/available, Laila was listed at defense for four, and at offense for four.

So, while it's all something of a "mixed bag", I think the idea that Laila was playing D because of injuries as much as for any other reason looks OK.

I thought it was hinted that she was playing there due to USA Hockey wanting her to get ice time there or as a way for the Badgers to help her Olympic dream come true or some other nonsense.

She's not a D. Anyone who has played D or coached hockey or even watched a lot of hockey can see it.

Not a good skater and not particularly fast and makes poor decisions in our zone. Not her fault and I really don't see what USA Hockey thinks they see. Square peg/round hole.

We'll see how she does this weekend, but even if she gets some points, that doesn't mean she's a good D.

She's an extremely gifted offensive player and that's where she will best help UW on the path to another Ship.

I finally watched the entire 6-1 game. Let's just say that there are lots of teachable moments that will arise off that tape. Ava stood on her head, as they say.
