Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Getting taken to overtime in 2 of their last three games by inferior opponents is extremely troubling, and that's on the heels of an embarrassing loss to the rodents.
Resulting in most likely being in second place heading into the games with your friends in Columbus.

Last night, they had a graphic on the video board that the Jan 24th game will be an early "Senior Day", because of the Olympics, and who knows who will or won't be there in February. But until just now, it hadn't dawned on me that Jan 24th is the next game at LaBahn; two road weekends leading into Christmas, and then two road weekends coming out. That all snuck up on me!

Hopefully we'll see the Olympic Seniors again in some tournament games, but it's getting real some stars time at the UW is rapidly coming to a close.

I have some pretty good video editing software on my PC, so I downloaded the BTN video of the game, opened it with the video editor, and had a good look at the last moment disallowed goal, with the audio wave also visible on the screen.

For both the audio wave and the clock on the BTN scoreboard "bug", the puck is past Minotti's arm while the clock still says 00.1, but maybe not full across the goal line; and then clearly across the line two video frames later - video 30 frames per second - but the BTN clock has gone to zeros during those two frames. The problem, of course, is that neither the BTN clock nor the horn is official. But it had to have been oh, so very close!
Rewatching this five times just on the BTN+ feed, the puck had hit the back of the net when the horn sounded. But like you say, the horn is not official. I echo all the comments about why it never should have been this close. I am worried about this team when the Olympic players leave in January.

That's a bad schedule. We just get in a groove as fans, then it's shut off from us for 2 months.

Realize that the other top teams will also lose players… their BEST players who carry 80 percent of the goal scoring load for their teams.
Badgers will be just fine and their depth will prove too much for the others without their stars.

The five players for Minnesota in Olympic contention have over half of the team's goals. And then there's Sarah Paul, and I have no idea how long she'll be out.

It should be clear after 12/13 who is going and who is staying. Although the scratches from the first rivalry games were all PWHL players if I recall correctly except for McNaughton.

Based on the projections, UW will be losing 45% of their goal scoring - their top 3 scorers, and their 7th & 8th, plus their starting goalie. It's over.

You really are a half empty guy.

One would think this weekend is an opportunity to see what that might look like. Do they play the backup goalies? Sit some of the players who won't be there during the Olympics? See what that looks like and what the other players need to bring to the table to be successful?

I used to think that would be the case - but now I think you keep your starters. I think it's probably better to throw the non-olympic players in when needed as opposed to risking them getting behind, losing a game, or having to pull them undermining confidence. - better to take the wins when/if you can and just see where you stack up without them.

They may play the 4th line more when the games get out of hand but will definitely be pedal on the gas at the start

Again, the other teams are also losing their top scorers and have nowhere near the depth of the Badgers… plus there is a top point getter that is FAR from a lock and closer to not making the Olympic roster.

So you wait to put them in against OSU and not Stonehill? That is an option.

3 lines with 1 spare F. That's it. I like those lines but I don't think they are head and shoulders above UM or TWSNBN.

Enright Pieckenhagen Scannell
Gorbokenko Hall Halverson
McCarthy Picard Zilisch/Vassuer

They play UM, TWSNBN, Mankato and St. Cloud during the Olympic period. What is your projection for their record in those 8 games?

I'd sit the Olympians against Stonehill, but a loss to Mercyhurst would be really bad, you can't take that risk. I'm concerned they will lose home ice for the NCAA's.

Winning 2 games the following week is of utmost importance for the ncaa seeding. Those may be the 2 most important conference games of the year.

I think hockey games are scheduled 2/6 - 2/22. Did USA Hockey post when the team was showing up in Italy?

Lotta doom and gloom from certain segments.

What's "over?"

A WCHA regular season title? Who cares?

Even if we lose hosting the NCAA first round... so what? Imagine being that 4 seed that has to host Wisconsin with so many of our stars coming off the Olympics. Wisconsin will still be the heavy favorite and I'd have extreme confidence that we'd get to the Frozen Four.

Btw... is the hosting based solely on something like the pairwise or does the committee make the decisions? If it's the committee, are they going to forget that we are one of the top two teams in the country and that half of our best players went away for a month?

Nothing's over. The path just changes. A national Championship is still the goal and even if it has to be won completely on the road, this team can do it.

I'm actually excited to see what the "other" ladies can do while the Olympic players are absent.

On the Olympic front...

Was watching my first ever PWHL game last night and the thought was again hammered home that there are 8 professional women's hockey teams out there and yet there are still a ton of NCAA players on the two best teams in the world when it comes to international play.

Pretty crazy when you think about it and illustrates the rapid and constant growth in talent with each new "generation" of women players.

I saw this in real time over the years as former Badgers and even a few current at the time players would play in some of my men's groups. Over those 20 years or so it was pretty amazing to see how much better the newer players would be than the group that preceded them.

I was also at the first ever UW women's game and I left pretty unimpressed by what I was seeing.

They've come a long way and haven't reached the peak yet.
