Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Decker gets into the coaching ranks jumping right into the PWHL with the Frost. She wrote an "in her own words" article about getting into the USA Hockey Hall Of Fame, and she mostly talked about Mark Johnson and not herself. She pointed out no one from the Miracle Team was in the USA Hockey Hall Of Fame and if any one of those guys was qualified to be in there, MJ was it. She sure seems like a clone of MJ. Her getting this kind of coaching experience now sure puts her on the short list of successors. Too bad MJ didn't hire her as the GM of the women's team. That would have been a great hire.

She's been a "Girls Prep Associate Head Coach" at Shattuck St Mary's for the last three (?) years. This is a step up, to be sure.

You must mean the regular Hockey Hall of Fame, because Morrow, Ramsey, Broten, Johnson, and Christian are all in the US one.

Yes regular hall. I had the same reaction as you.

Great stuff from Brianna. Pretty cool how she says he should get in on his coaching record alone, as well as the respect for Knight.

The toughest job that coaching staff has is managing a team captain who thinks she's the shop steward, head coach, general manager, and owner. Good luck to Brianna! I would not want to spend any time in that locker room. If things work out, she'll quickly punch her "yes, I've coached in the pros" ticket and move on.

I wonder what attracted Lauren to Dartmouth? Maybe she wants to be more active on the ice? Or prefers the collegiate level?
I would think it's a "fit" thing. I'd rather coach college than the pro's. I love the feel of the collegiate experience.

Yes, there's something more intimate about the college game. The skaters are younger and they become close. I don't think the pro-level teams can replicate this.

I think there's a lot more behind the scenes drama in the pro-level. Didn't a coach get fired by a Coyne last year? 🤣 At the pro level, many players are playing for their professional lives, so I do understand the drama to a point. In college you get 4 years of stability (if you want it) with all the support one could ask for - and a degree.

A recap of the national title game with comments by the players:
They didn't ask Simms what I want to know!

The year before, Ohio State was playing in Madison, and somebody covered the puck in the crease, resulting in a penalty shot for UW. Simms took the shot, and it was against Thiele. She made very much the same far sweep to her right, come back to the left, and finally shot on her backhand, and scored. In the championship game, she threw in the one more move to forehand.

I want to know if either of them was thinking about that penalty shot from the year before. Is that why Thiele bit so hard on the backhand, etc.

Otherwise, great video.

You can't say they were not confident. I should probably sit down and watch the whole game sometime. We were driving back from Missouri and I didn't get to see anything but the game tieing fracas and the OT.

I was watching the live stats. The live stats actually froze with 20 seconds left, with the Badgers behind. I restarted my phone to try to solve the problem, and the score came up 3-3 and then suddenly it was 4-3. I had to go on social media to figure out what happened. Since then, of course, I've watched the whole game and I can't begin to count how many times I've watched the penalty shot and the overtime period. They provide a needed lift some days!
On a related note, I know that Nadine gave a post-game press conference, but as far as I know the NCAA has never posted it and no one has reported on it. I was genuinely interested in what she had to say because that kind of loss is almost inexplicable. And vice versa, of course: that kind of win is equally inexplicable.

They had fallen behind in each their last five games, including the championship game; the two WCHA final four games, and then all three NCAA tournament games. A dangerous way to operate, and it almost burned them. But they had 'been there before', so their confidence was warranted.

I imagine the person running 'live stats' was quite stumped as for what to do with what was happening at 20 seconds to play. LOL

Not sure about the stability part. Certainly not in the transfer portal era.

Take Mckayla Zilisch. On her third school, and still fighting to stay in the lineup/get some ice time night in and night out.

I think in general you're correct - in that the transfer portal has tossed a lot more variablity in the the college game - but I think as far as the Badgers go - It's a relatively stable program. Yes we've had some movement, but McKayla is a good example of both cases, yes - she's seen some schools -but also she'll likely complete her college career as a Badger, and on the Roster. Yes still fighting for ice time, but I don't think that's the same thing as not being on the roster. Cool that the Badgers didn't gain or lose anybody to the portal this offseason. I know that's a bit off the topic - but since it's in the Badger Thread - I thought warranted to point out.
