To me there's a difference between hinting at something to let you speculate and revealing something specific that could be breaking trust.
I'll say this and move on, a program insider told me today that more girls than ever before want to come play at Ohio State, I'm going to assume that includes SSM girls as well.

To me, saying "nudge-nudge-wink-wink I can say no more" about the good stuff but saying "oh no, that's a secret" about the bad stuff is 'something other' than what you claim it to be.

If there are "more girls than ever wanting to come play at Ohio State" then why are you sitting at 10 forwards for next season? why are we a month out from when you claimed we'd be hearing about all those transfers that were coming but never came? why did someone feel the need to 'advertise' for forwards on the team instagram account?

The other half of the Monty Python "nudge-nudge-wink-wink I can say no more" bit is "please, say no more". So next time you feel the urge to "hint at something to let you speculate", "please. Say no more".

I really do hope that Wisconsin starts producing more Tier 1 female prospects. Nothing better than seeing a roster with more than a handful of "local" girls on it!!!!

I'd like to see that too. What do you think it'll take to grow the program in state? I think the high school program is growing and I expect it to only get stronger. Is that enough or do we need a top end program like SSM in state?

that's a great question and I'm not sure as my son played hockey, but I never had a daughter go through the program.

A top flight prep school is always a plus and would seem like a doable option.

Wisconsin is not a place to go to prep school for athletics or any other reason. If you are from Wisconsin and want to go to a "top flight" prep school, you go to another state.

On March 31, you said Ohio State's transfers would be announced on social media "by midweek". And then three days later, OSU ran their "want ad". Since then, you have two FEWER forwards on your roster.

I wonder if Jane's departure was also related to a lack of scholarship money like Maddy's was?

Agreed now that's the case - but what are the obstacles for something like this to exist in state?

I suppose a boarding school that has a quality rink(s) or access to a quality rink(s) needs to hire top end coaches with a proven track record of player development to start attracting top end players. Is there a school such as this in WI with the potential to do this? Wayland Academy is in the town that I work. The local rink (1 sheet) is within a mile of it. I doubt the rink in Beaver Dam is in the same league as SSM's, but it is just as good as Tosu's!!!!! LOL!!! HAHA!!! HEHE!!!! It may even be better!

I have to say I am perturbed that the UW women's volleyball team just got a huge radio deal with ESPN Madison and Milwaukee, but the women's hockey team barely has a radio presence at all.

We might be discussing more than one thing. Are we talking about creating a hockey factory or an elite prep school that happens to have a hockey team? One of the advantages of some of the out of state prep schools is that they are competitive at hockey and can also get you into Harvard and Princeton.

SSM placed two of their 2022-2023 graduates at Harvard and one at Princeton. According to Wayland Academy's website, they have throughout their history had graduates accepted at two of the Ivy League schools and only one of them, Cornell, plays hockey. Cornell also has four schools that are state-supported with higher acceptance rates than the rest of the university. It takes more than a convenient, state of the art rink.

Very good point/question. Naturally on this forum, hockey is the focus and we started the conversation wanting there to be an in-state path to feed talented women to the Badgers. That is of course a very selfish view, and what's more important for the young women is the opportunity to improve academically and athletically. So I think my answer to your question/comment is an elite prep school - available to all income levels (scholarships etc.). That certainly increases the difficulty of implementation because as Ooftah has eluded to, you need much more than a nice rink and a top notch coach - you now need top notch educators and facilities. - with that thought now maybe the maybe the path to success is to identify an existing prep school - and build them a nice rink and hire them a top notch coach!

There are no elite prep schools in Wisconsin. Building a fancy rink and hiring a "top notch" coach for a less than elite prep school is the definition of creating a hockey factory. If that is the target, why not go the NAHA route? The barriers to entry into that market are lower.
 
Does Wisconsin have high school girls hockey as an approved sport by your state high school athletic assoc? That’s something I’d like to see.

WI does have high school hockey through the WIAA many are multi school Co-Ops, one division, two for the boys. That being said if you compare youth numbers to MN, the participation in the youth levels is approximately a 1:4 ratio per USA Hockey numbers.

Thanks. That’s a nice start. Hoping to get there where I live. Starting to see girls flag football grow and while I’m happy for them I’m like come on hockey, let’s goooooo

It only takes a little spark and it can get going quickly. I always encouraged my kids to play multiple sports, and all of them would list hockey as their favorite. After they learned how to skate, they wanted to do it all the time.
Both loved to play flag football as well, so it's funny that you brought that up!
