Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025

I remember being surprised in 2023 that the marketing people had a "seven star" logo all set right there on the ice, to later show up on t-shirts, etc. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they had an 'eight star" one ready today. Probably left over from last year. LOL

T-shirt shopping this week!!

Look the fact that conversation about this years Frozen Four is happening across 4 different threads is driving me nuts.

Having said that a) congrats and b) the video of Johnson saying who wants it? Who wants its? And Simms literally raising her effing hand is iconic.

It makes sense, though. There's stuff one team's fans want to say to "their own" that might generate 'offense' to the other team's fans, and then stuff that can go on 'neutral' threads. My "t-shirt shopping" post, for example.

Yep I understand. It’s like a work day navigating teams and email etc.

I got to say, the effort on the Dunne shorty was absolutely horrific. Just a little harassment here and there and pass her off to the next person. Then she burst by KK. And in a game of that magnitude, that just was not acceptable.

I've been thinking this for quite a long time and I think I posted it earlier in the season, but I think Ava's glove hand is a liability. She had a clean look at that one goal and she never moved her glove up try to catch it.

Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. That game was the definition of it. Natty #8. The Pankowski lead team showed the way for the future teams to follow. She cracked the code. On Wisconsin.

The way this forum has been for much of the season, the surprise is that there is much in the way of conversation at all. Thanks for contributing! I think I started in "Scores" because we never had a FF thread, nor a UW vs tOSU Championship, or any other "official" thread. To the extent that I contributed to the disorganization, I apologize.

Wisconsin just completed a marvelous season capped by winning a national title. Your goalie goes 36-1-2 with a 94.4% save percentage and you think her catching glove is a liability? It feels like you ignore that players on opposing teams do have some level of skill to make plays.

It was a great shot. Her glove never speared up to try to catch it. Perhaps the shooter angled her stick pre-shot to tell Ava she was going lower and then at the last millisecond changed the angle and snipped it upper. I'd love to get her analysis of how it went down.

I had a crazy dream last night. The Badgers were 20 seconds away from losing, but tied it up on a penalty shot, and won in overtime. In the national championship game! Imagine if that had happened!

So, game time is 3 PM, right?

:-)

It’s all good. I can be agile lol. There are 70 comments on an Athletic article celebrating/fighting over the game…. I think our little sport is making progress.

No local coverage for Edwards that I’ve seen, although it’s early and the local news site did post an AP article about the buckeyes making the frozen four and that is something for us.

Our local youth hockey league posted the men’s bracket yesterday on their social media, absolutely oblivious to the performance of one of their alumna on the same day. It’s sad, because it is really impactful to see someone’s success celebrated or to see some version of yourself reflected in what gets celebrated or stories told. It is not about me, it is one hundred percent about the next generation. One day they will get it. Bolden and Edwards both represented this area amazingly this weekend.

So I’ll take our scattershot threads, in the end I’m quite grateful for them and enjoy them. Ruggiero commented yesterday that the display on the ice made her proud to be part of the women’s hockey community and I wholeheartedly agree.

Wouldn't that be something.......

This is one of my favorite posts ever to appear on this Forum. I would only emphasize that Timothy’s comment is just one of countless examples in the sports world, and TA shouldn’t be singled out as unusually egregious.

The offending logic goes something like this: The opposing team is a bunch of faceless robots. Incapable of greatness; but also they never mess up. Simply an uninteresting constant. Conversely, “my” team is always in control of the situation. If they win, they decided to do their jobs. If they lose, they screwed up. And probably screwed up on purpose. Give the opposing team credit? Never!

Ditra, we’re in the minority on this. And we’re probably a shrinking minority. Be that as it may, I sincerely thank you for your post.

Larry McCarren, former Green Bay Packer player and now on the Packer radio broadcast, likes to say "the other team gets paid, too". It didn't used to apply (supposedly) to college sports, but I guess now it does.

Agreed on the Dunne goal, not so much on the McNaughton performance.

There were three “Ole’s” on that rush - I think O’Brien, Simms, and finally Harvey. I know you can’t check but good lord move your feet and at least try to get Dunne going East/West a little.

I’m not sure what McNaughton could have done differently on the first two goals - Dunne in alone after faking out 2/3 of the Patty Kaz finalists and the snipe on the 2 on 1 was a thing of beauty. Seems like there was a lot of traffic in front of her on the third goal and she maybe got screened??

Probably the wrong thread for this but I really like Gorbatenko and Hall - they will each need to take a big step forward next year to help replace the production of O’Brien and Eden.

There will be a "next year" thread soon enough, but there are TWO Gorbatenko sisters coming next season.

And, yeah, Hall had a couple shifts yesterday that while they didn't result in goals, they took D zone faceoffs and turned them into O zone faceoffs.

One of her backups at Bishop Kearney is starting for my DIII alma mater, would be happy to make a trade if you guys are that unhappy and think your coach recruited the wrong goalie 😉

There's a ton to replace next season, 67G 124A, but If everyone who is returning scores the same amount of goals as this year, UW scores 154 goals and this year UM scored 153 and TWSNBN scored 155, so they'd be right there competing for the top 5 in the nation in scoring, which is a good place to be. That's how obscene the scoring was this last year. Just crazy. There's no reason to think they also can't maintain a top 5 team D rank as well.

I think Scannell is going to have a big year next year. She'll center one of the top 2 lines.

Three "ole's" on this goal. Bad defense or skilled stick handling? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OVgrD88kVE I guess it's depends on which team you cheer for in the end.
